During the Trump administration Hispanic unemployment has hit five all-time record lows, but the nation’s number one Spanish-language television newscast, Noticiero Univision, once again blew off the latest blockbuster economic news for the country’s largest minority group, which participates in the American labor force at a higher rate than any other segment of the U.S. population.

A Nevada bill that would legalize assisted suicide was the subject of horrifically one-sided, totally supportive coverage on Telemundo, the Spanish-language sister network of NBC.

Funny how in the eyes of the two leading Hispanic television networks, unauthorized immigrants practically have a “right” to cross over onto the U.S. side of the border, but American citizens, in this case volunteers aiding the United States Border Patrol (BP) in their increasingly overwhelming task, are all dangerous troublemakers.

Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rosselló (D) achieved a lot of free press on the Mainland, with help and direction from CNN’s Jim Acosta. But Telemundo needlessly took the governor’s remarks a step further. In the clip below, Telemundo senior anchor José Díaz-Balart hypes Rosselló’s inflammatory remarks by misrepresenting them:

As news of the Mueller report’s arrival broke late Friday afternoon, newscasts scrambled to adequately cover a story that is sure to shake up the nation’s political landscape. Our major domestic Spanish-language newscasts were no different, but there was a clear tonal difference in how news of the Mueller report was covered.

Latino news networks in the United States exist for one sole reason: to inform Hispanics who prefer watching relevant content in Spanish. As such, it would seem only natural for major economic news directly affecting that viewership to occupy headlines on the nation’s top Spanish-language media outlets. There was good news in the latest jobs report. The national unemployment rate fell back to 3.8 percent in February, although the numbers of jobs added was well below expectations. The Hispanic unemployment rate also fell to a new record low of 4.3 percent. But that record didn’t make it into any of the network evening shows that night.

The United States Senate finally held a vote on the Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act. The vote tally fell along mostly partisan lines and ultimately failed. Inexplicably, none of this was reported on any of the leading national Spanish-language newscasts.

The ‘hate crime hoax’ phenomenon is alive and well at Telemundo. The Spanish-language sister network to NBC really made a  fool of itself in a story on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SPLC) annual “Year in Hate” report.

The controversial Green New Deal, pitched by freshman Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), received no coverage whatsoever from  the nation’s leading Spanish-language networks, despite broad reaction that was equal parts cheering, revulsion, and mockery.

The push to strip our border enforcement agencies of any funding received a big boost from NBC's sister network, Telemundo. A recent report on the network's evening newscast served as a virtual infomercial for the "Defund ICE" movement, without offering any opinion or perspective to the contrary.

Barely a month ago, Telemundo and NBC anchor José Díaz-Balart was harrumphingly telling his viewers that President Trump was all wrong about there being an illegal immigration crisis on the U.S. southern border. But now the anchorman has been forced to eat his words.

The annual March for Life and Women’s March have become back-to-back events for two large, sharply clashing constituencies. By covering the Women’s March 17 times more than the March for Life, the top two national Spanish-language television newscasts in the United States reveal their clear preference for publicizing the agenda of one march, but not the other.
