On her 12 p.m. ET hour MSNBC show on Tuesday, anchor Andrea Mitchell teed up former Undersecretary of State Wendy Sherman to denounce President Trump for reinstating the Mexico City policy banning U.S. foreign aide from funding abortions. In addition, Mitchell agreed with a stunning accusation hurled by the Obama administration official.

In Hollywood, there are unforgivable crimes – performing at Donald Trump’s inauguration, for one. Making a serious movie about Christ’s passion and death, for another. But a powerful and celebrated 43-year-old director raping and sodomizing a 13-year-old? Not so much. 

What do we do if we are increasingly willing to ignore “facts?” According to Jeff Rivers, “we’ll end up in real trouble.” Writing for ESPN’s The Undefeated blog, Rivers writes that when it comes to public policy “we too often allow ideology and political maneuvering to render facts moot, especially when those facts support inconvenient truths such as global climate change.”

  While Sundance founder Robert Redford insisted that his festival doesn’t “play advocacy,” the lineup of 2017 films is certainly political. “The idea of us being involved in politics is just not so,” Redford told The Hollywood Reporter, noting that the festival focuses on the stories told by artists. “We stay away from that.”
