Showtime’s I’m Dying Up Here proves it’s not offering any new material by once again bashing Christianity. It’s only fitting, I suppose, since the show is based in the 1970's that its jokes feel that old. This week, the show attempts to give us tasteless and disparaging humor about one of the sacraments of Catholicism.

Within hours of her racist remarks towards Valerie Jarrett, Roseanne’s hugely successful sitcom was reduced to a pile of rubble. Mindy Kaling’s ultra-liberal comedy Champions on NBC has three favorite targets - Christians, whites and men. The show’s double-episode finale on Friday (“Opening Night” and “Deal or No Deal”) was no exception, insinuating that Christian congressmen are just gay men who didn’t have anyone to confide in when they were young.

Adult cartoons may be known for poking fun at just about anyone and anything, and it may be good to keep a sense of humor and not take them too seriously, but still, there are times when their lampooning can be a bit much. The Showtime series I’m Dying Up Here returned earlier this month with the start of the brand-new second season. However, it has still yet to move past the awful low-brow humor that plagues the series. Once again, it’s back to taking a swipe against the Christian faith through a new character.
