On her MSNBC show on Thursday, host Andrea Mitchell bemoaned the Obama administration’s “unforced error” in sending Iran $400 million at the exact same time American hostages were released from Tehran in January. She was puzzled by the decision: “...they never explained that this other money was going – the $400 million. It’s unrelated to the nuclear deal. Why do it on the same day?”

Doing his part in the media’s minimizing of the $400 million the Obama administration sent to Iran around the time four Americans were freed, MSNBC’s Hardball host Chris Matthews spent a measly one minute of his Wednesday show discussing the matter only after his show carried portions of a Donald Trump rally in which the issue came up. 

Washington Free Beacon staff writer and former CNS News staff writer Elizabeth Harrington revealed late Tuesday afternoon that NBC News has stealth edited a May 19 video of Clinton campaign correspondent Andrea Mitchell on Today denouncing Juanita Broaddrick’s sexual allegations against Bill Clinton as “a discredited and long-denied accusation” to simply saying merely a “long-denied accusation.”

Amidst all the overwhelming media coverage gushing over President Barack Obama’s Wednesday night speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC), there were a few points during MSNBC’s coverage in the early hours of Thursday that couldn’t go by without being chronicled for NewsBusters readers. 

With both the Republican and Democratic conventions now concluded, it’s time to judge the news media on how fairly they covered the two parties. Media Research Center analysts looked at various aspects of coverage, all of which demonstrate that journalists obviously favored the Democratic gathering.

After having had a great time piecing together a list for readers of some crazy, surprising, and downright weird moments/statements from MSNBC’s late Monday night/early Tuesday morning coverage of the Democratic National Convention (DNC), I thought it would be an appropriate time to do another one for the DNC’s closing night. 

According to Chris Matthews, Donald Trump brings out the “best” in Democrats and prompts them to show “gut patriotism” that has been hidden in the past. On Thursday, Matthews cheered, “[Trump] reminded them of what they believe in, the rights and hopes of immigrants, the freedom of religion in this country, the love of the country itself.” 

MSNBC on Thursday night offered a movie trailer-style promo, complete with dramatic music and exciting visuals to tout the “united” Democrats “embracing history.” This is quite the contrast to the opening video to last week’s Republican National Convention. Kicking off the primetime coverage of the Democratic convention, an announcer intoned, “The baton has been passed... A party stands united.”
