AP: Katrina 'An Example of Urban Inequality, Environmental Injustice'

September 5th, 2017 9:21 AM
The Associated Press couldn't keep race and income out of its coverage of Hurricane Harvey and Houston's recovery from it. Those angles were wholly predictable and tiresome, but the wire service's Juliet Linderman also decided she would tell readers what the establishment press has from all appearances unilaterally and falsely decided should be the conventional wisdom about the impact of…

Racial Lies and Racism

August 30th, 2017 8:01 PM
Earlier this month, The New York Times ran an article titled "U.S. Rights Unit Shifts to Study Antiwhite Bias" on its front page. The article says that President Donald Trump's Justice Department's civil rights division is going to investigate and sue universities whose affirmative action admissions policies discriminate against white applicants. This is an out-and-out lie.

After It's Discredited, NYT Praises Shoddy Anti-Conservative Hit Book

August 21st, 2017 12:49 PM
Unprofessional all around: The decision by the New York Times Sunday Book Review to publish a laudatory review of “Democracy in Chains: The Deep History of the Radical Right’s Stealth Plan for America. At this point, the grievous flaws flushed out by critics on the left and right should have required that any review come with a warning label. Yet even months after criticism from outlets across…

August 11th, 2017 9:00 PM
On Friday, in an op-ed which made the paper's print edition, David Brooks, the alleged conservative commentator at the New York Times, surprised more than a few people by calling for Google CEO Sundar Pichai to resign over his awful handling of now ex-employee James Damore's "Echo Chamber" document. Brooks identified the five key players in the drama, and directed sharp criticism at three of them…

MSNBC's Johnson: Trump Wants to Bring Back 'Violence & Discrimination'

August 10th, 2017 2:37 PM
In his column this week at The Root, MSNBC contributor Jason Johnson made his latest launch into hyperbole as he claimed that the Trump administration "wants to return America" to the days of "white grievance, violence and discrimination" against blacks, referring to the Philadelphia transit strike of 1944 in which white workers opposed the promotion of blacks to better jobs. Johnson also coined…

Is College Education Worth It?

August 10th, 2017 10:17 AM
August is the month when parents bid farewell to not only their college-bound youngsters but also a sizable chunk of cash for tuition. More than 18 million students attend our more than 4,300 degree-granting institutions. A question parents, their college-bound youngsters and taxpayers should ask: Is college worth it?

New York Times Helps Antifa Soften Up Harmful Violent Stereotypes

August 6th, 2017 9:33 PM
The New York Times special Education section Sunday soft-pedaled the authoritarian left-wing movements afoot on many college campuses, including the violence black-bloc "anti-fascist" movement Antifa. First, Laura Pappano’s solid if slightly muddled piece on left-wing campus intolerance of dissenting views appeared under a euphemistic headline: “Where ‘Everything Is Under Attack’ -- Students are…

NPR Lets Obama-Era Official Bash Justice Department Under Sessions

August 3rd, 2017 11:25 AM
NPR aired a completely one-sided segment on Wednesday's Morning Edition that targeted the Attorney General Jeff Sessions's leadership of the Justice Department. Carrie Johnson played up that a possible Justice Department initiative targeting colleges' affirmative action policies on admissions was " just part of a broader rollback of Obama-era priorities in civil rights, from protecting LGBT…

August 2nd, 2017 11:30 AM
On Wednesday, the network morning shows were all deeply troubled by a New York Times report that the Trump Justice Department was preparing to defend the civil rights of white students applying to college. At the top of ABC’s Good Morning America, co-host George Stephanopoulos sounded the alarm: “Breaking overnight, new reports the Trump administration is taking on Affirmative Action, preparing…

New York Mag Flunks ‘Zealot’ and ‘Bully' Education Secretary DeVos

August 1st, 2017 11:09 AM
Journalist Lisa Miller has a hostile 5,500-word profile of "bully" Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos in the July 24 edition of New York magazine, complete with cloying, cutesy “portraits” of DeVos (none particularly gentle-looking) “commissioned” from schoolchildren. The headline selection serves as a reliable CliffsNotes summary of the text: “Who Is Betsy DeVos? And how did she get to be head…

When Institutions Go Left

July 21st, 2017 3:20 PM
I have recently been reminded of one of my earliest conclusions about the American left. I arrived at that conclusion when it was relatively civilized. In those days, we called it American liberalism, but even then it was fla fla. My conclusion was that when any entity falls under the dominance of liberalism, it loses all sense of its fundamental purpose. A city loses all sense of its purpose,…

NYT Sunday: Ban Conservative Speech, Mock GOP’s Trump ‘Hallucination'

July 17th, 2017 3:17 PM
The recent New York Times Sunday Review outdid itself in anti-conservative wackiness. Lisa Feldman Barrett, a professor of psychology at Northeastern University, offered some kooky junk science in the name of banning “offensive” right-wingers like Milo Yiannopoulos from campus in “When Is Speech Violence?”  In the same section, liberal journalist Joshua Green took on the “hallucinatory” right-…

Colleges: Islands of Intolerance

July 5th, 2017 11:41 AM
Is there no limit to the level of disgusting behavior on college campuses that parents, taxpayers, donors and legislators will accept? Colleges have become islands of intolerance, and as with fish, the rot begins at the head. Let's examine some recent episodes representative of a general trend and ask ourselves why we should tolerate it plus pay for it.
