On Friday, January 10, Netflix premiered a new show co-created by drag queen RuPaul titled AJ and the Queen. RuPaul is the host of the popular show RuPaul’s Drag Race. AJ and the Queen is about a 10-year-old child who accompanies Robert (RuPaul), a gay male drag performer who goes by “Ruby Red” as he travels across the country performing in drag shows at mostly gay bars. What could go wrong?

Turns out Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling might not be as progressive as she thought. Recently, the fantasy writer angered radical LGBTQ folks on social media for tweeting a defense of a person fired for believing that there are only two genders. Hallmark’s reversal on pulling Zola’s “lesbian” wedding ad sent another shockwave through the media world after it had just been whipped up into a frenzy. CBS, ABC and NBC’s morning shows all featured news on the “controversial” redecision, though unsurprisingly they leaned almost exclusively on LGBTQ talking points from the SPLC and the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD.)
