According to New York Times reporter Yamiche Alcindor, the outcry over Donald Trump’s hot-mic audio has something to do with race. After the presidential candidate’s lascivious comments went public last week, many Republicans rescinded their endorsement. But some journalists claim that the reason was not the mogul’s vulgar words, so much as the target of those words: a white woman.

The pattern of news coverage following the same-day leak of both Donald Trump’s off-color, 2005 hot mic comments alongside compromising emails from within the Clinton campaign illustrates the staggering extent of the political bias that continues to dominate the morning and evening news programs on the nation’s top two Spanish-language television networks.

Since Friday, ABC, CBS and NBC have inundated viewers with more than 200 minutes on a tape showing Trump making inappropriate remarks. However, these same networks gave 24 minutes, 5 seconds to the Wikileaks release of multiple years’ worth of e-mails from Hillary Clinton’s staff – but very little of this coverage was on specific emails or issues that were brought up by the emails. 

On her MSNBC show on Wednesday, anchor Andrea Mitchell referred to the leaked e-mails from Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta as “an incredible, rich narrative of what was going on inside the campaign” but then asked New York Times reporter Amy Chozick “what do we see as the really, you know, smoking guns, if you will, in these e-mails?”

NBC executives had planned to use video of the vulgar discussion between Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and Billy Bush to influence the election.
