The Morning Negligence: Nets Ignore Covering DISASTROUS BLS Jobs Report

September 3rd, 2021 2:16 PM

ABC, CBS and NBC morning news shows ignored an abysmal jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) to further insulate President Joe Biden from bad news.

The BLS reported at 8:30 a.m. Friday that the U.S. economy only added an embarrassingly low 235,000 jobs in August, against economists’ forecast of 720,000 jobs. That means projections were off by a whopping 485,000 jobs. The Wall Street Journal said that many employers are reporting “difficulty filling job openings, which touched record highs this summer.” ABC’s Good Morning America (GMA), CBS This Morning, NBC’s Today and NBC’s Third Hour of Today just ignored the story altogether as if it didn’t exist, continuing a despicable trend of censoring news that spells trouble for Biden’s agenda.

Biden put a pathetic spin on the bad report by blaming the Delta COVID-19 variant and a “‘continuing pandemic of the unvaccinated,’” according to CNBC. That’s despite the fact that a new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study concluded that over 80 percent of Americans were now “protected” from COVID either through vaccination or natural recovery.

Economist Stephen Moore slammed the “insanity” of how the U.S. has “10 million job openings” and how “we are increasing food stamp benefits,” and how “we’re telling people you don’t have to pay your rent.” Moore continued his takedown of Biden’s freebie policies on Fox Business: “We are encouraging people to stay on the sidelines with all these benefits. We’re taxing people for working. We got to reverse those policies. There is no reason we shouldn’t be creating 500, 600, 700,000 jobs a month given the demand.” To those in the media saying free benefits weren’t deterring job growth, Moore clapped back: “Get out of your ivory towers!”

Apparently none of the context Moore pointed out was worth any coverage from the Big Three morning news networks. Today, in particular, spent the vast majority of its coverage between 8:30 a.m. — 9:00 a.m. on the Citi Music Series starring musician Keith Urban. Today couldn’t even be bothered to have at least covered the story in the chyrons.

The 3rd Hour of Today spent 291 seconds on Hurricane Ida but kicked off their coverage by attaching it to — wait for it — climate change. Putting an eco-extremist spin on a natural disaster was apparently more important than reporting the terrible August jobs numbers.

CBS This Morning was no better. Instead of covering the BLS report, the network spent 84 seconds talking about how actress Michelle Yeoh kicked Kung Fu legend Jackie Chan’s “butt.” The chyron read as follows: “Until I Kicked His Butt.”

And not to be outdone in negligence, GMA spent 65 seconds of coverage in the minutes following the 8:30 a.m. release of the BLS report promoting a book characterized as a “love song to libraries” by the author. GMA gave zero coverage to the awful August jobs numbers.

Conservatives are under attack. Contact ABC News (818-460-7477), CBS News (212-975-3247) and NBC News (212- 664-6192) and hold them to account for not reporting the disastrous August jobs numbers to viewers.
