It’s rare for people to agree on, well, anything these days. Politics. TV. Movies. Religion. Is pineapple pizza delicious or a crime against humanity? We love to disagree. We thrive on it. Yet we all came together over the weekend. Audiences were in virtual lockstep over Maroon 5’s Super Bowl Half Time performance.

The far-left’s descent into madness often involves violent spasms of hate and ugliness, and in Donald Trump’s America even the most celebrated pastimes aren’t spared from being coated in a heavy layer of scorned leftist slime. Case in point — rabid progressives’ reaction to the Patriots' Super Bowl victory. Lefty sports writer Drew Magary composed a contemptuous piece skewering “all the terrible people” who are “happy today. Fuck them, fuck the Patriots, and fuck all the terrible people right off the side of the earth.”
Appearing on MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports on Monday, Washington Post Deputy Editorial Page Editor Ruth Marcus applauded her paper’s decision to spend money on an expensive Super Bowl ad. She even claimed that the commercial wasn’t actually meant to promote the Post, despite the logo being shown at the end of Sunday night’s pricey spot.
Rapper Cardi B virtue signalled HARD on Friday prior the Super Bowl, making sure to let the media know that she was actually approached to perform during the halftime show. But because she’s such a living saint, she told the associated press that she declined performing and “sacrifice[d] a lot of money” in tribute to Colin Kaepernick.
Maroon 5 got the gig of a lifetime, but the band would rather talk about anything else. Adam Levine’s group will entertain millions midway through Super Bowl LIII at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta Sunday. The musicians won’t chat up the gig prior to the big game, though.
ABC is still obsessed with potential boycotts at the Super Bowl and the treatment of Colin Kaepernick. The day after the NFL officially announced that Maroon 5 and others would be performing, Good Morning America offered a full report, hyping opposition by the liberal actress Amy Schumer. In contrast, CBS allowed just 30 seconds on the topic and NBC focused simply on this past weekend’s results.
Two nights before the Philadelphia Eagles took home its first Super Bowl trophy, the networks were far more focused on stories related to the big game than to one measure of the U.S. economy. So pre-game stories still outranked the strong jobs report nearly 5-to-1.
Alec Baldwin is back again on Saturday Night Live, depicting an ignorant and buffoonish Donald Trump to the besotted hosts of Fox & Friends in last night's opening skit.
"Mr. President, can I say, your speech was maybe the best speech in the history of this country!" gushed SNL's Heidi Gardner as Fox's Ainsley Earhardt, referring to the State of the Union address. Baldwin's Trump quickly agreed, boasting that "a lot of folks" including Paul Ryan said "it was better than Martin Luther King's 'I Dream of Jeannie' speech."
During an interview with Patriots owner Robert Kraft about his NFL team’s Super Bowl win, on Monday’s NBC Today, co-host Matt Lauer turned the conversation to politics and demanded Kraft defend his friendship with President Trump: “Your relationship with Donald Trump, I should mention, goes back a while.... Has your relationship with Donald Trump in any way strained your relationship with some of your players? Who, by the way, some say they don't want to go to the White House to celebrate this win.”
Despite apparent attempts to inspire unity, some Super Bowl advertising led to even more division as liberal ads sparked Twitter battles over what America stands for as a country. And, as usual, celebrities weighed in on the debate.
Super Bowl commercials are known for being creative, funny, and sometimes controversial, but T-Mobile’s BDSM-themed commercials took the game day ads to a weird new level. Sunday night, two T-Mobile ads compared Verizon customer experience to BDSM during the 2017 Super Bowl. The ads were meant to reflect the controversial (and media-hyped) BDSM-themed movie 50 Shades of Grey and its sequel 50 Shades Darker set to be released Feb. 9.
