On Sunday's Meet the Press, Chuck Todd gushed like a geyser over controversial U.S. women's soccer star Megan Rapinoe. He began by insisting Rapinoe "right now is bigger than LeBron, bigger than Brady, bigger than just about anyone in the sports world and maybe beyond," and "we are very happy" for her to appear.
Fox Sports claimed the World Cup soccer champion American team lifted the nation and a gender. The progressive sports blog SB Nation calls U.S. soccer star Megan Rapinoe "love" and "a godlike figure." One courageous sports writer isn't drinking that Kool-Aid though. Phil Mushnick, columnist for the New York Post, disputes those claims, says the American team invited scorn and calls Rapinoe a "a foul-mouthed stage hog."
Despite the fact that the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup ended on Sunday, the liberal media’s infatuation with not so much the U.S. Women’s National Team’s play on the pitch but their wokeness off it has continued. On Wednesday, MSNBC’s Deadline: White House host Nicolle Wallace swooned that team captain Megan Rapinoe is an “icon” and “real-life superhero” who’s “chicken soup for your soul” with a future in liberal politics.
In a predictably fawning interview with Women’s World Cup soccer champion and left-wing activist Megan Rapinoe Tuesday night, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow hailed the athlete for being “more and more articulate in terms of using the platform that you’ve got to say what you think ought to be happening in the world.” The liberal anchor even joked about Rapinoe possibly running for president.
A stunned MSNBC host on Wednesday offered an apology after Women’s World Cup player Megan Rapinoe dropped the F-bomb during a championship parade in New York City. A few minutes later, host Andrea Mitchell praised the “eloquence” of the soccer star. During the celebration, captain Rapinoe cheered, “This group is incredible. We took so much on our shoulders to be here today, to celebrate with you today. And we did it with a smile. So, do the same for us. Please, I ask you. New York City, you're the motherfucking best!”
U.S Women’s Soccer Team Captain Megan Rapinoe slammed President Donald Trump on CNN Tuesday evening, blasting his “Make America Great Again” slogan as a message that’s “excluding people.” The recent Women’s World Cup winner, whose left-wing activism has quickly become as notable as her soccer playing, continued her spat with the president on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360.
Add the New York Daily News's Filip Bondy to the list of media over-inflating the U.S. women's national soccer team's place in the world. USA Today writers have been obsessed beyond obsession with this team and its gay rights and anti-Trump crusades. Bondy says the players on this World Cup championship team are making America great again as they dictate social and political policy. His flair for exaggeration ranks right up there with the star American striker Megan Rapinoe, who claims the lesbian-dominated team is changing the world.
Trans SBNation writer Kim McCauley waved off all objectivity in her first sentence, admitting she's "an unabashed fan" of the World Cup champion U.S. women's soccer team. Her post, "Why the USWNT's open queerness matters", confirms what's been obvious throughout the duration of the World Cup, by the team and its media friends: the U.S. team is a bastion for queer hope and a vehicle for LGBT+ pride.
Hot off the heels of the U.S. women’s World Cup victory, hollywood and the media jumped at the pseudo-issue that is a pay disparity between women and men players, parroting the line that the gals are being shafted in their salaries. If only these folks were interested in the simple economic facts of the matter, like the glaring one that a men’s world cup tournament drags in “40x as much revenue” as the female tournament.
The U.S. Women’s Team won the World Cup, so I guess American patriotism isn’t stupid and embarassing anymore. Still, if you’re tempted to start chanting “U.S.A!” check with the New York Times first. While you’re at it, stop by The Atlantic for a tutorial on why Team U.S.A. has lefties sounding like red state jingos. (Talk about embarrassing.)
On July 4th, a great spirit of patriotism swept the country as Americans celebrated their great nation. However, some on the U.S. women’s soccer team were not filled with the same flag-waving enthusiasm. In a CNN interview, U.S. soccer player Ali Krieger stated that she absolutely refuses to visit the White House and respect the President.
A photo of the radical protégé of Colin Kaepernick, pro soccer player Megan Rapinoe, is being hailed as the new version of the symbol she detests: the American flag. Courtesy of Robert Mayes, staff writer for The Ringer blog, who tweeted a photo of Rapinoe celebrating a goal at the World Cup slugged "the American flag now."
