Previewing President Trump’s State of the Union address Tuesday morning, the broadcast networks were giddy with anticipation at the prospect of the Republican chief executive facing a “sea of opponents” in the new Democratic House majority. Anchors and correspondents were particularly eager to watch Speaker Nancy Pelosi “over his shoulder,” reacting negatively to the speech “in real time.”

January was a “blockbuster” month for job gains, in spite of the government shutdown. The 304,000 jobs added was nearly twice as many as the 172,000 forecasters anticipated. Only it didn’t appear that way on the broadcast evening news shows.

On Monday, the third hour of the Today show brought on a pair of left-wing MSNBC political analysts to react to the growing racial scandal embroiling Virginia Democratic Governor Ralph Northam. While both of them appropriately condemned an offensive blackface picture featured on Northam’s 1984 college yearbook page, they also argued that President Trump was somehow to blame for the controversy.

In just 35 days, the partial government shutdown generated nearly five hours of coverage on the ABC, CBS and NBC evening newscasts. By a six-to-one margin, network reporters framed the shutdown as the fault of President Trump, not the Democrats. Appearing on NBC’s Late Night With Seth Meyers Thursday, aired early Friday morning, left-wing film maker Michael Moore promised viewers that if he ever ran for president his first agenda item would be “outlawing billionaires.” Asked about socialist Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez pushing for a 70% marginal tax rate for the wealthy, Moore endorsed the radical proposal.

On the Thursday night/early Friday edition of the Late Night with Seth Meyers, NBC comedian Meyers spent more than five minutes essentially giving a commentary in which he mocked and lectured former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz for criticizing Democrats and possibly threatening his former party's chances of defeating President Donald Trump.

Though Cory Booker has a long history of distortions and making things up, two of the three networks on Friday avoided this inconvenient fact while hyping the Democrat’s just-announced presidential bid. Only ABC’s Good Morning America mentioned Booker’s tendency towards “embellishing” the truth.
