On Friday, both NBC’s Today show and CBS This Morning labeled Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s decision not to censor political speech on the social network as “controversial.” The coverage emphasized that 2020 Democratic candidates were particularly upset by move, after trying to pressure Facebook into banning ads from the President Trump’s reelection campaign.

Facebook and its developers have been in the race to define and correct what the platform calls hate speech. But in a speech given to Georgetown University, CEO Mark Zuckerberg suggested a different direction for the company.

On her Monday show, MSNBC Live host Katy Tur theorized that the future of Facebook as a company is very much up in the air. The latest controversy surrounding the social media company? CEO Mark Zuckerberg dared to talk to conservatives and yield to Elizabeth Warren's demands.

On Tuesday, CBS This Morning noted liberal outrage over reports that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been conducting meetings with conservative leaders. Surprisingly, co-host and Democratic donor Gayle King was quick to defend the practice, asking, “What’s wrong with that?”

The intolerant left has a long list of things they consider unforgivable sins. One of them includes simply talking and dining with those on the right. Politico published a story Oct. 14, which said that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg “has been hosting informal talks and small, off-the-record dinners with conservative journalists, commentators and at least one Republican lawmaker.”

Facebook is now Senator Elizabeth Warren’s (D-MA) biggest boogeyman, but she’ll attack the social media platform … by using its ad services. The Democratic presidential primary candidate ran the confrontational ad on Facebook, which she announced on Oct. 12 on her Twitter page.

Facebook has finally realized it’s impossible to uphold the American concept of freedom of speech while appeasing other governments around the world. Global Policy Management VP Monika Bickert complained in an October 14 post for Facebook that an EU court order “raises critical questions for freedom of expression.”

In a sign of the challenges ahead for Trump from social media censors and their journalistic allies as the 2020 campaign heats up, the New York Times is pouting that Facebook won’t censor a Trump campaign ad attacking Joe Biden over his son’s sketchy dealings in Ukraine. Facebook is standing by its new approach to political advertising, despite sharp criticism from the left. Former Vice President Joe Biden’s presidential campaign asked Facebook to remove President Trump’s ad on Oct. 8, according to The New York Times.

Democrats want to persecute any business, person, or group that has helped or even simply not hindered President Donald Trump. Even top social media companies. Senator and Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren came after Facebook on Twitter on Oct. 7, for “help[ing] elect Donald Trump once” and for labeling her own campaign as “an ‘existential’ threat to Facebook.”

Facebook is taking a free-speech approach to political campaign ads, and letting users decide what is or is not fake news. Naturally, the left is upset about it. President Trump’s re-election campaign launched a new ad both on television and social media last week that condemned Vice President Joe Biden’s role in the Ukraine controversy. 

The liberal media are ready to redefine social media platforms as something only they can use freely. Harvard Kennedy School’s Joan Donovan and Data and Society head Danah Boyd wrote in a white paper that tech companies were responsible for a “new wave of hate groups.”
