After Wednesday’s network evening newscasts rushed to slam President Trump’s immigration reform proposal, on Thursday, the morning shows of NBC, ABC, and CBS continued the work of trashing the “hardline” policy and framing it as a “major new controversy” for the administration designed to only appeal to the President’s “hardcore supporters.” 

Despite two hours of air time, CBS This Morning on Thursday ignored the stock market soaring above 22,000. Over on NBC’s Today, the journalists allowed Donald Trump “some” credit for the rise, but cautioned not to give too much. ABC’s Good Morning America mentioned it in a news brief. 

You know it’s a bad sign when the comedy host is a tougher “journalist” than the actual reporters. But that’s what played out as The Daily Show and CBS This Morning both featured interviews with Al Gore. The ex-Vice President is promoting his new climate change sequel and endured this softball from CBS’s Charlie Rose: “So, tell me, in ten years, what has changed that alarms you?” 

On Wednesday, the network morning shows were all deeply troubled by a New York Times report that the Trump Justice Department was preparing to defend the civil rights of white students applying to college. Venezuela’s president held a sham election on July 30 that created an assembly out of his own supporters, to bypass that country’s elected representatives and rewrite the constitution. But, inexcusably, the broadcast networks seem to be going out of their way to avoid reporting on this glaring example of how socialism inevitably turns out, if it’s allowed to continue unchecked.

The journalists at CBS have suddenly become prim and proper and are offended by someone using profanity. Horrified at the use of expletives from White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci, This Morning co-host Gayle King on Friday fretted to veteran journalist Bob Schieffer: “When you hear something like that, Bob, are you offended?... Are you disappointed? Are you saddened by it?” 

On Thursday, The Hill reporter Joe Concha put the media on notice. Speaking about the news that a staffer for Florida Congresswoman and former Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz had been arrested trying to flee the country, he blasted the liberal media for ignoring the scandal.

CBS This Morning journalists on Thursday defended the practice of leaking from officials inside the White House and said that investigations cracking down can lead to “terror” inside an administration.
