Appearing on the 9 a.m. ET hour of NBC’s Today on Monday, left-wing actor Donald Sutherland recalled being scolded by actress Helen Mirren on the set of one of his films: “Helen Mirren came up to me on the set and....she said, ‘You are the most privileged person on Earth’....I said, ‘How can you say that?’ And she said, ‘You are a white male.’”

It is a matter of record that establishment national media lost big on Election Day, having been stunned by the election of Donald J. Trump to the presidency of the United States. But the network that had the most at stake and lost the most in this election seems to have also learned the least.

Considering that it's coming from the New York Times, reporter Sabrina Tavernise's account of what happened in Ohio to swing it from a close Obama win in 2012 to a near-blowout for Donald Trump in 2016 was reasonably well-done, but still had glaring flaws. It's been one helluva week for MSNBC's Rachel Maddow, along with so many of her smug cohorts in the formerly safe ideological space known as the United States, since Donald Trump winning the election confirmed their long-held suspicion that they do in fact live in Amerikkka. 

Remember those concerned New York Times stories about the dictatorial dangers of refusing to accept election results? Apparently they only applied to Donald Trump. In Sunday’s edition, New York Times reporters hypocritically hailed anti-Trump demonstrators in “Protesters Take Anti-Trump Message to His Doorstep, and Plan Next Steps."

The Washington Post wrote off Donald Trump this way. The headline from the Post’s Chris Cillizza was as follows on June 17, 2015, a total of two days after Trump rode into the GOP presidential race on a Trump Tower escalator: "Why no one should take Donald Trump seriously, in one very simple chart." 

Following Donald Trump becoming the president-elect in a stunning upset, CNN’s Brian Stelter was desperate to find a reason for Hillary Clinton’s loss on Sunday’s “Reliable Sources.” He went so far as to wonder if the media was being too balanced during the election.
