Not content with letting social media sites police content on their own, five Democratic U.S. Senators have sent letters to the heads of major tech companies urging them to “proactively” block users from accessing blueprints for 3-D printed guns.

In its aim to be politically correct, Facebook has determined that criticizing an accused terrorist counts as hate speech. According to Brigitte Gabriel, founder of Act for America, Facebook suspended her personal page for posting a comment about the suspected terrorist arrested at a compound in New Mexico. She tweeted that the post was taken down for “hate speech.”

In response to the increasing criticism over his handling of the site, Twitter CEO Dorsey has conducted an array of interviews about Twitter’s future, which reportedly includes putting “alternative viewpoints” in users’ timelines.

A little over a week after Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey diverged from other tech giants by stating that Alex Jones would be held to the same standard as every other account, rather than succumbing Twitter succumbing to outside pressure to ban him, Twitter has given Jones a temporary seven-day suspension.

In a piece by the New York Times, Cecilia Kang wrote about how she and Kate Conger attended a Twitter meeting, meant to discuss the removal of “dehumanizing content,”  only to be disappointed. She wrote, “I felt that depicting a policy meeting that didn’t result in substantive changes, which was basically what happened, was in itself revealing about the state of Twitter.”

On Friday, Facebook announced a new policy that will require Facebook Pages with large U.S.-based audiences to go through an authentication process.
