CNN Lets Boxer Wrongly Claim Trump Wants to Jail Women for Abortion

On Saturday's CNN Newsroom, host Ana Cabrera did not bother to fact check former Senator Barbara Boxer when the far-left California Democrat wrongly claimed that President Donald Trump "wants to put women in jail" for having abortions.

At 8:27 p.m. Eastern, as Cabrera played clips from President Trump's speech in West Virginia from that day, at one point she played a clip of him making fun of Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren and mocking Democrats for possibly thinking she is not liberal enough.

When asked to react, Boxer dismissed his comments as "more of his attack on women," and added: "He can't attack Dr. Ford. ... So first he goes after Dianne Feinstein, now he goes after Elizabeth Warren. Who's next? Melania? Who knows where he's going to go."

She continued: "The man has no respect for women. He wants to put -- the President -- he wants to put women in jail if they get an abortion. Let's be clear about what's at stake."

But, during the presidential campaign, after indicating at one point there should be "some kind of punishment" for women who get illegal abortions, he immediately backed off that view and took the position that doctors should be held legally accountable for breaking the law.
