On Thursday, TIME magazine released its annual list of the world’s 100 most influential people, spanning across politics, entertainment, music, and sports. Predictably, the reliably liberal publication featured 14 glowing profiles of liberal activists, politicians, entertainers, and athletes, but only managed to find four conservative figures to highlight, one of which was a nasty hit piece.
To kick of his Sunday evening show on CNN March 11, host Van Jones warmly welcomed media mogul Oprah Winfrey by fangirling over how much he missed seeing her on television and pleading with her to give "us" “hope” for America’s future, with President Trump in office.
CBS’s desperation for Oprah Winfrey to challenge Donald Trump in 2020 escalated to ridiculous lengths on Tuesday night. Stephen Colbert featured “God” to encourage the liberal talk show host to run. Appearing on Late Night, “God” wore Oprah 2020 apparel and seemed to worship the host: “Hmm, How do I make this clearer, Oprah?... Oprah Winfrey 2020! Yes, she can!”
CBS This Morning co-host Gayle King on Tuesday urged her best friend Oprah Winfrey to run against Donald Trump in 2020. King even absurdly insisted she could stay on at CBS and cover the race “impartially.” The co-host, it turns out, has been lobbying her friend to run for months. On the show, King pleaded, “But I also think you have a unique ability in terms of healing and connecting all people.”
Ellen DeGeneres welcomed Oprah Winfrey on her show to discuss how President Trump mocked her on Twitter for asking voters about his mental fitness and potential sexual abuse on 60 Minutes. But first, Ellen had to play her usual game about how she's all about unity and Trump's "job" as president is to bring the unity to America. She said you can't mess with Oprah, because "when you mess with Oprah, you mess with me." And Oprah is "the mother of our country."
CBS’s 60 Minutes on Sunday devoted 11 minutes to potential presidential candidate Oprah Winfrey’s conversation with voters in the swing state Michigan. Winfrey’s questions included pressing these selected Americans on Donald Trump’s mental fitness as well as accusations of sexual abuse against the President.
CBS on Friday admitted that This Morning co-host Gayle King, a Democratic donor, is actively lobbying her liberal friend Oprah Winfrey to run for president. Does anyone see this conflict of interest as a problem? Previewing a segment from Sunday’s 60 Minutes, Winfrey recounted what happened after her Golden Globes speech, “When there was so much talk about it and Gayle was, like, every day saying, ‘You should think about it. You always say when things show up, you should think about it.’”
The Grammys are over (and if you watched it, sorry: those IQ points are gone forever.) The Oscars are a little over a month away. That means the we’ve reached peak entertainment awards season, with all the glitz, style and self-congratulation kicking into overdrive.
The media circus would love nothing better than a celebrity showdown in the next presidential election year.
So even though Oprah Winfrey, the bright star of the liberal media’s horizon, has denied over and over again plans to run in 2020, publications just won’t take “no” for an answer. Fashion magazine InStyle put Oprah on the cover of its February issue, with the caption, “Hello, Madam President? We Asked, She Answered.”
It’s unclear what kind of presidential candidate Oprah Winfrey would be, but she’s not much of a probing journalist. On CBS's Sunday Morning, the“special contributor” talked to celebrity women in the Time’s Up movement about sexual harassment. One member of the all-female panel was Natalie Portman. While talking about Woody Allen, Winfrey managed to forget that Portman appeared in one of his filmsand that the movie star also signed a petition in defense of admitted child rapist Roman Polanski.
Would Hollywood dial back on its raging Trump hate? Could honorees avoid sanctimonious speeches for once? Would the industry’s bubble mentality finally break? Nope, nope and nope.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which hosts the Golden Globe Awards, may have provided the rocket fuel for Oprah Winfrey for President in 2020. Her acceptance speech for their Cecil B. DeMille Award struck the perfect pose for the Hollywood establishment. They have seen themselves as the uninterrupted social conscience of America for as long as they’ve made motion pictures. That’s ridiculous.
