'Scandal' Revives Fake Trump-Russian Hooker Story for Lame Joke

February 8th, 2018 11:42 PM

Liberals are about the only people in the country who decry the level of “fake news” circulating on the Internet but get a kick out of promoting any and every negative lie about Donald Trump. Nowhere was that more evident than in the release of the infamous Steele dossier supposedly involving the president with Russian hookers. What do they do when those stories fall flat on their faces? Apparently, use them for material in shows like ABC’s Scandal.

The February 8 episode “Army of One” follows the surprising move of President Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) firing Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) as her Chief of Staff. Madam President then chooses the head of the NSA Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) to be the replacement which leads to him being vetted again by the Attorney General. As per usual, AG David Rosen (Joshua Malina) speaks to both Jake and his wife about any possible skeletons in their closet, which leads to this interesting discussion about their open marriage and ends with a joke at President Trump's expense.

Rosen: Now, I know you've been vetted before, Jake. But, still, I have to ask -- Is there anything we need to know about -- anything we could've missed previously?

Jake: Vanessa and I have an open marriage. Jake.

Rosen: I see. A-a-and by "Open marriage," you mean –

Jake: She's been sleeping with someone else. Is. Is sleeping with someone else.

Vanessa: Wow. So we're just gonna put it all out there.

Jake: We have a deal. It works. It shouldn't be any concern. We're careful. Exceedingly so. But in the interest of transparency, I think it's something you should know.

Rosen: Shouldn't be a big deal. Not like you asked Russian hookers to pee on you or something. [ Chuckles ]

I fail to see how having an open marriage is somehow not a "big deal" to the public, but this is the ideal liberal universe. Marriage no longer matters, and guns are easier to buy than computers. Those are the foundations of this upside-down world.

Oh, and then there's the obvious reference to the Steele dossier. There is something oddly hilarious about how the “Russian hooker” angle is the rumor hill liberals are willing to die on to slam Trump. Even though the Russia collusion narrative is crumbling at the seams, this completely unsubstantiated story still manages to pop up, as if repeating it enough will make it true. All this joke does is remind everyone of what that these writers are either too dense to realize or just don’t care about - the facts. That’s why this has to be one of the most pathetic jabs I’ve seen so far this year.

Then again, it’s only February. Please don’t try to top yourself, Scandal.
