With the stroke of a pen, President Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday that would officially end the policy of separating parents and children who come across the southern border illegally. It’s what many on the right and left wanted to see happen, but for the liberal media it wasn’t enough, as CBS anchor Jeff Glor demonstrated by opining about how Trump was trying to “put out a big political fire with a few drops of ink.”
On the Thursday morning broadcasts, both ABC and NBC gave full reports on illegal immigrant children being separated from their families and detained at a holding center in Texas. Both networks gave sympathetic spin blaming the Trump administration's immigration policy for separating families, but NBC's take was so over-the-top that it compared the kids to animals locked up in cages and the detention center as worse than a prison.
Appearing on Thursday’s Megyn Kelly Today, NBC reporter Jacob Soboroff couldn’t bring himself to condemn left-wing Full Frontal host Samantha Bee for calling First Daughter Ivanka Trump a “feckless c**t” on the TBS show Wednesday night. Instead, he seemed to excuse the nasty attack, claiming: “Look, she’s a comedian and she said it on her show.”
During MSNBC’s 1:00 p.m. ET hour on Tuesday, correspondent Jacob Soboroff actually grilled Democratic Pennsylvania congressional candidate John Morganelli on his policy positions, but did so from the left, accusing the pro-life politician of being “too conservative.” The interview came just moments after a fawning report in which the reporter went campaigning door to door with Morganelli’s more liberal primary opponent.
Starting off a new series on Monday called Top of the World, ahead of Earth Day, NBC’s Today show sent correspondent Jacob Soboroff to the North Pole “to understand why we have all been experiencing such extreme weather, from droughts to fires, floods and hurricanes, even more.” The reporter hyped how he joined a team of NASA scientists “working around the clock to compile data that could be critical to our future on Earth.”
While attempting to boost the candidacy of a Democrat running to unseat Republican California Congressman Devin Nunes, MSNBC inadvertently revealed that a lot voters in that district don’t really care about the Russia investigation. Even the Democrat himself complained that “the media only talk about the Russia thing.”
Even with the stock market reaching new record highs, the unemployment rate at an historic low, and economic growth on the rise, NBC News wanted viewers to know that “homelessness is surging” in certain parts of the country and “affecting regular working families.” That was the focus of correspondent Jacob Soboroff in a report for Thursday’s Megyn Kelly Today.
In a story for Thursday’s NBC Today designed to put pressure on Republicans to reach a DACA immigration deal with Democrats, correspondent Jacob Soboroff lamented that the U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants sometimes follow their deported parents back to Mexico. Buried within the three-minute report was the fact that the father of one such child was sent back after being convicted and imprisoned in the U.S. for drug trafficking.
Perhaps in a effort to compete with CNN featuring live bong hits during its New Year’s Eve coverage and excited by California’s plan to legalize recreational marijuana in 2018, on Tuesday, NBC’s Today began a new series dubbed California’s Green Rush. In a promo that aired during the morning show, an announcer declared: “California’s going to pot. From mainstream delivery to pot luck dinners. In the New Year, the Golden State is turning green.”
On Friday, while marking the one year anniversary of Donald Trump being elected president, MSNBC correspondent Jacob Soboroff traveled to Nevada hoping to find that Latino voters who backed Trump in 2016 had now abandoned him. However, much to his astonishment, he found that they remained steadfast in their support for the President.
In an effort to criticize President Donald Trump’s proposed border wall -- which has been approved for the construction of eight prototypes made of concrete, steel or other materials -- the liberal MSNBC channel sent reporter Jacob Soboroff to check the progress of the project but instead proved the wall is still needed on the border between the U.S. and Mexico.
After Wednesday’s NBC Nightly News devoted an entire report to elevating the racist views of a white nationalist, on Thursday’s Today, correspondent Gabe Gutierrez claimed the network wanted to avoid promoting such offensive extremists: “Experts who track these groups say that they feel emboldened and are not going away. And while we don’t want to provide a platform for these fringe voices, it’s important to understand who they are.”
