The third “Purge” movie will continue its tradition of using American imagery to bash America and its values. The trailer for the politically charged dystopian thriller was released on Monday and featured creepy, clownish murderers wearing American flag and colonial paraphernalia as “God Bless America” plays in the background.  

The progressives at Salon ask, “Why is religion so obsessed with sex?,” yet they themselves cannot seem to write enough articles on the idea that it is. Last week they blamed the “old men running the Vatican” for everyone’s “sexual hangups.” Now they’re going after Christianity in general with an excerpt from a book titled “The Illusion of God’s Presence.”

I wouldn’t normally write about this, except that it’s become so exceedingly rare and unusual. Especially with shows primarily built on sex and irreverence. But The CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend had a scene this week, in an episode titled ‘That Text Was Not Meant for Josh!’ involving a priest and religion. And it actually went…well.

When The Washington Post took up publicizing a priest coming out of the closet as gay – in Chicago – it strangely put it on the front of the Metro section on Monday. Wow. NBC went there. The freshman comedy Superstore went out of its way to offend Christians by having characters opine on Jesus’ beliefs about gays – including suggesting that Jesus Himself was gay! They wouldn't be so edgy and provocative to suggest that's where Muhammad would be. 

NBC’s You, Me and the Apocalypse centers around an eclectic cast of characters as they receive the news that a comet will hit the Earth in 34 days, ending all life on the planet. Rob Lowe stars as the chain-smoking, foulmouthed Father Jude, the Vatican’s newly re-empowered “Devil’s Advocate.”

God, it seems, is still not dead. In fact, he’s about to prove it again in Iowa on Sunday. Tickets sold out in 24 hours for a pre-screening of the movie God’s Not Dead 2, hosted by former Arkansas governor and 2016 Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.
