Just hours before Attorney General William Barr sat down to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, all three network morning shows used Democratic talking points to frame the upcoming hearing. Reporters hyped an “explosive” newly-revealed letter from Special Counsel Robert Mueller as a “bombshell” that would ensure a “grilling” of Barr.  

MSNBC or DNC TV? You couldn’t tell the difference on Wednesday as the vitriol thrown against Attorney General William Barr continued. Earlier in the day, MSNBC repeatedly interrupted Republicans during the hearings to fact check them. Nicolle Wallace called Barr a “liar.” Wallace and Brian Williams followed this up by assailing the “scary,” radical” Barr, comparing him to a cheating boyfriend. 

Even for MSNBC, Wednesday’s coverage of William Barr’s testimony to Congress was particularly unhinged. For a second time, Brian Williams and Nicolle Wallace interrupted to offer their spin. This time, Wallace quoted the word “shit” from testimony and then chided Senator Lindsey Graham for using the word “fuck.” 

On Wednesday morning, ABC broke in for roughly 20 minutes of coverage for the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing featuring Attorney General Bill Barr concerning the Mueller report and, predictably, ABC journalists were livid with Barr and painted him as a lying, partisan stooge. CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer practically begged his Democrat guest to call Attorney General William Barr, a liar, and find a way to force him out disgracefully, during CNN’s live coverage of the AG’s testimony before the Senate, Wednesday morning. That question was prompted by news that broke overnight, revealing Special Counsel Robert Mueller was not happy with Barr’s summary of his report.

With The Washington Post publishing select excerpts of a letter Special Counsel Robert Mueller purportedly sent to Attorney General William Barr expressing some level of displeasure with the original four-page memo to Congress, CNN was off to the races on Tuesday night with all sorts of speculation and doom and gloom soothsaying at it pertained to the fate of the AG.

At the 7:13 p.m. Eastern mark of Tuesday’s Hardball, MSNBC host Chris Matthews sent his show into rolling coverage for the rest of the hour (and thus making the entire show commercial-free) over stories in The New York Times and Washington Post about Special Counsel Robert Mueller having expressed concerns to AG Bill Barr about his March 24 letter on the Trump-Russia probe’s principal conclusions…

Since the redacted Mueller report was released two weeks ago, TV journalists have been among the biggest advocates for impeaching President Trump. Yet curiously during the late 1990s, journalists were among the loudest voices against impeaching then-President Clinton.

While promoting planned House Democratic hearings on the Mueller report, on her Monday show, MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell complained that President Trump “had three weeks head start” when it came to “branding this as case closed.” She advised Democrats that it would be up to them to keep pushing the case against Trump.
