On an interview Friday morning on Good Morning America, ABC’s George Stephanopoulos interviewed NBA star Dwyane Wade, whose cousin was killed by newly released prisoners on the streets of Chicago last week. While Wade proposed a variety of measures to combat violence in cities like Chicago, Stephanopoulos geared the conversation to be about guns, and Trump.

This June was marked by a wave of radical Islamic terrorist attacks – in Turkey, in Orlando, in a Paris suburb, in Israel, and elsewhere around the world. As the bodies piled up and nations were gripped with grief and rage, broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC) did their best to call the horror anything other than the work of terrorists.

Olympic sharpshooter Kim Rhode won a bronze medal in skeet shooting on Aug. 12, becoming the first woman to win medals at six consecutive Olympics. That was a remarkable feat. But despite her achievements, Rhode does not have “a single sponsor from outside the firearm industry.” Major companies like Coca-Cola and Procter & Gamble turned down sponsorship requests, according to Bloomberg.

“Protest” is a popular word these days, especially when it downplays reality. Following the violence in Milwaukee last weekend, ABC’s World News Tonight used the words “protest(er)” seven times, but used “riot” only when describing police gear. CBS and NBC each used “riot(er)” once, but also preferred “protest(er),” even though what they described and portrayed amounted to obvious rioting. 

Did we miss something, or did the media just admit Hollywood’s double standard on guns? It was a pleasant surprise this morning to discover that USA Today entertainment writer Andrea Mandell thoroughly addressed the issue in a lengthy article entitled “Guns, Politics and Hollywood Collide.” 

Yesterday, CNN's Jim Sciutto, the network's Chief National Security Correspondent, reported, based on a discussion he claims to have had with "an official from the United States Secret Service," that "it has spoken with the Trump campaign regarding those comments."  Reuters says otherwise.

What a difference a year can make if those 12 months are spent no longer working for MSNBC. In the case of Ed Schultz, it means he'll now occasionally demonstrate a capacity for common sense.
