ABC's Meghan McCain Blasts Joy Behar’s Nasty Melania Joke: ‘So Mean!’

April 26th, 2018 1:16 PM

Joy Behar took a nasty shot at Melania Trump on Thursday’s The View and token conservative Meghan McCain fired back, deriding her liberal co-host as “so mean.” The women were discussing the latest on Stormy Daniels. Behar mocked: “Today is Melania's birthday. Happy birthday, Melania.”

McCain immediately jumped in: “I don’t think that was necessary! Come on. That's so mean!” Tension on the set quickly surfaced as Behar complained: “What was mean about it, Meghan? Tell me what was mean!”  The two argued:

MEGHAN MCCAIN: You think that was appropriate? Yesterday, we all talked about how we collectively like Melania.

JOY BEHAR: I do like her.

MCCAIN: You're making fun of her pain!

BEHAR: I'm not making fun of her.

MCCAIN: You are! You are! That is what you just did!

BEHAR: You have no sense of humor. That’s your problem!

McCain lectured her co-hosts: “I thought yesterday we all said we had a soft spot for her and we felt bad for her. We should just be honest.” Behar backed up a bit, spinning: “It was a bad joke, maybe. So what? So sue me. Send me to jail.”

The two hosts often spar. On April 12, McCain bashed Behar for comparing Trump to Kim Jong-un. On April 13, McCain upended the liberal narrative on James Comey, saying the ex-FBI Director just wants to be a View co-host.

In February, the MRC led a successful campaign to force Behar to apologize for mocking Mike Pence’s Christian faith as a “mental illness.”

[Talking about Stormy Daniels]

SUNNY HOSTIN: I mean, I don't know if they understood the import of it. We all understand the import of it. If Michael Cohen paid this hush money $130,000 on President Trump's behalf, that's an illegal, in-kind campaign contribution.

JOY BEHAR: He didn’t say that. There’s wiggle room.

HOSTIN: There is a little bit of wiggle room. But the fact that now he is admitting that they have this relationship in reference to Stormy Daniels.

BEHAR: Today is Melania's birthday. Happy birthday, Melania.

HOSTIN: I know! I know!

MEGHAN MCCAIN: I don’t think that was necessary! Come on. That's so mean!

BEHAR: What was mean about it?

MCCAIN: Because — We talked yesterday —

BEHAR: What was mean about it, Meghan? Tell me what was mean!

MCCAIN: You think that was appropriate? Yesterday, we all talked about how we collectively like Melania.

BEHAR: I do like her.

MCCAIN: You're making fun of her pain!

BEHAR: I'm not making fun of her.

MCCAIN: You are! That is what you just did!

BEHAR: You have no sense of humor. That’s your problem!

MCCAIN: Oh, please! It's not that I don't have a sense of humor. It's because I feel bad for our First Lady. I thought covered yesterday —

HOSTIN: I feel bad that she married this guy that's doing this to her. That's what I have. That's what I have. I mean, you know, it's —

BEHAR: Get a sense of humor!

MCCAIN: We should take back what we said yesterday. I thought yesterday we all said we had a soft spot for her and we felt bad for her. We should just be honest.

PAULA FARIS: I think what Joy is saying, it's sad that her birthday and this is what everyone is —

BEHAR: It’s about him and what a jerk he is.

MCCAIN: He is a jerk, but I think to point out “Happy birthday, Melania. Your life totally blows. We're going to talk about it on national television.” She's aware how bad this.

BEHAR: I wish you would understand who the target of my jokes is. That seemed to go right over your head.

MCCAIN: The audience didn't laugh either.

BEHAR: It was a bad joke, maybe. So what? So sue me. Send me to jail.
