Flashback: ABC’s The View Spewed Hate at the Threat of ‘Radical Christians’

March 3rd, 2018 2:30 PM

In February, the Media Research Center announced a campaign to hold ABC’s advertisers accountable for the anti-Christian bigotry spewed on The View. There, the show’s co-hosts smeared Christians as “dangerous” and “mentally ill.” But The View’s history of bashing people of faith didn’t start in 2018.

On September 12, 2006, then-co-host Rosie O’Donnell drew a moral equivalence between the fanatical terrorists who slaughtered 3000 people on 9/11 and... American Christians. After token conservative Elisabeth Hasselbeck had the temerity to bring up radical Islam, O’Donnell spat back: “Radical Christianity is just as threatening as radical Islam in a country like America where we have a separation of church and state."

In the years to follow, The View co-host would become a 9/11 truther and doubt that Muslim terrorists were involved. On March 29, 2007, she promoted trutherism, saying of September 11th:

I do believe it is the first time in history that fire has ever melted steel. I do believe that it defies physics for the World Trade Center Tower Seven, building seven, which collapsed in on itself, it is impossible for a building to fall the way it fell without explosives being involved…

She soon left the show.

In 2014, O'Donnell doubled down on trutherism and told me, “I still do not believe the official story.” Amazingly, ABC REHIRED her as the co-host of The View

The View’s trashing of Christians continues to this day. On February 13, 2018, co-host Joy Behar mocked Vice President Mike Pence and other Christians, deriding: “That's called mental illness, if I'm not correct. Hearing voices.” Co-host Sunny Hostin mocked Pence’s faith as “dangerous.”
