Morning Joe Hypocrites Mock Trump's 'J.D. Mandel' Goof, Ignore Biden Gaffes

May 2nd, 2022 2:25 PM

Today's Morning Joe didn't merely report on Donald Trump stumbling over the name "J.D. Vance," the candidate he's endorsed in the Ohio Republican Senate primary—it led the show with it!

And in a moment of clueless hypocrisy, Joe Scarborough said: "You know if the current occupant at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue had done that, there would be headlines for, like, months."

This is ridiculous. If Biden had done that, one place you can be virtually certain there'd be no coverage, let alone show-leading headlines, would be . . . Morning Joe.

For example, Googling indicates that not only did Morning Joe not cover Biden's most recent gaffe, in which he got all tangled up in knots trying to say "kleptocracy," the Biden blooper doesn't appear to have been reported anywhere on MSNBC. To the contrary, the one mention we found was on MSNBC's parent, NBC News, which cleaned up  Biden's gaffe, reporting that he simply said:

"We’re going to seize their yachts, their luxury homes and other ill-begotten gains of [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s kleptocracy," Biden said."

Someone should tell Joe that the media has a bad habit of skipping Biden gaffes.

After he and Jonathan Lemire shared some laughs over words used on competency tests like "water buffalo," Scarborough added:

But seriously, the guy -- like, what planet is he on?...So there you see Joe Biden and the First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden. And President Biden, actually, he told a few jokes at the correspondents dinner the other night. And by the way, he didn't forget his name or the name of people that he was endorsing.

Scarborough has transmogrified from proud member of Newt Gingrich's 1994 conservative revolution into a sniveling liberal sycophant. Sad.

Note: as you'll see in the screencap, CNN's New Day also had a field day with Trump's fumble. But CNN didn't lead the show with it, nor make Scarborough's false claim that the media would have run headlines for months if Biden had committed such a gaffe.John Berman Harry Enten CNN New Day 5-2-22

Morning Joe, a show that regularly buries Biden's gaffes, mocking Donald Trump's fumbling of the name of JD Vance, his endorsed Ohio Senate candidate, was sponsored in part by USPS, GlaxoSmithKline, maker of Voltaren, and Clear Choice.

Here's the transcript.

MASHUP OF TV COMMERCIALS FOR JD VANCE: JD is the conservative outsider. JD  Vance. I'm JD  Vance. I'm JD Vance. I support JD Vance. JD Vance is different. JD is strong on borders. We need JD Vance. Donald Trump has officially endorsed US Senate candidate JD  Vance.

DONALD TRUMP: We've endorsed, JP, right? JD Mandel. And, he's doing great.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: [Laughs uproariously] Oh, my God! You know, you know, if the current occupant at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue had done that, there would be headlines for, like, months. He's addled; he can't remember.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: About his age.

SCARBOROUGH: Oh, he's old and he can't remember. Which, of course, underlines the fact, how funny it is. When you have people, right-wing Trumpists, attacking, like Joe Biden for his mental acuity. And you know, right before, Donald Trump couldn't remember who even endorsed. He -- this is when he was going through his cognitive test.

MIKA: Right.

SCARBOROUGH: I aced my cognitive test. This is a water buffalo. Buffalo. This is a ladder. Hold on a second. Do we have Jonathan Lemire here? He's our cognitive-test specialist. Jonathan, what were the six or seven words he could remember?

JONATHAN LEMIRE: It was man, woman, camera, light, and then there was one more. But it was all very -- water Buffalo, you had that one right.

SCARBOROUGH: Water buffalo.

LEMIRE: Water Buffalo is essential. Look, actually a little cheat code for anyone about to take a cognitive test, water buffalo, always one of the words. But this here from the former president was a remarkable performance, perhaps fusing together these two Republican candidates. Maybe he thinks that will be their best chance in Ohio.

SCARBOROUGH: Yeah, maybe so. So, I've just been told by [executive producer] Alex Korson, that along with water buffalo, it was person, woman, man, camera, TV. Fortunately, Vance, JD Vance, wasn't listed in there.

But seriously, the guy -- like, what planet is he on?

. . .

So there you see Joe Biden and the First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden. And President Biden, actually, he told a few jokes at the correspondents dinner the other night. And by the way, he didn't forget his name or the name of people that he was endorsing.
