Joyless Reid: DeSantis Only Wants a Pro-Slavery Curriculum in Florida Schools

January 19th, 2023 11:50 PM

On Thursday night's The ReidOut on MSNBC, the vile and venomous Joy Reid threw a temper tantrum over Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis allegedly banning an AP class called "African American Studies" from being taught in Florida public high schools. Instead of making a coherent argument for why a class like that should be taught, Reid accused DeSantis of approving a course that would teach students that former slaves in America were happy and treated well by their "good slave masters."

"It’s the Daughters of the American revolution, the pro-confederate groups who insisted that we can only teach slavery as happy slaves, good slave masters," Reid claimed.

Continuing to lash out, Reid shrieked: "I promise you an A.P. class that taught that slavery was good because it seemed at least per his former students, Dr. Gallon that he wanted to teach history of slavery as sort of gallant slave owners who were kind to their happy slaves. He's cool with that. And if the A.P. course said that, he’d be fine with it."

Reid then read from a paragraph of an article in National Review by Stanley Kurtz titled "DeSantis: AP African-American Studies Program, as Written, Violates Florida Law" which rightly noted how divisive the leftist curriculum is to American society:

The larger danger here is that these courses if they're approved will see the college board devise A.P. courses in women's studies, gender studies, transgender studies, Latino studies, environmental studies a full panoply of polarized studies that have balkanized and politicized higher education.

Instead of trying to understand Kurtz' argument which is admittedly too difficult for Reid to comprehend, she flung more proverbial elephant dung at DeSantis by asking her guest: "In your view, is this an attempt to shut down the teaching of not just black history but any history but the Hallmark card of white and European history?"

JOY REID: It’s the Daughters of the American Revolution, the pro-confederate groups who insisted that we can only teach slavery as happy slaves, good slave masters. If you’re doing that, I promise you an A.P. class that taught that that slavery was good, because it seemed at least per his former students, Dr. Gallon that he wanted to teach history of slavery as sort of gallant slave owners who were kind to their happy slaves.

He's cool with that. And if the A.P. course said that, he’d be fine with it. I also think that you’ve seen the revelation of what this is really about. A guy named Stanley Kurtz claims he read the story, that he read the curriculum and he said the larger danger here is that these courses if they're approved will see the college board devise A.P. courses in women's studies, gender studies, transgender studies, Latino studies, environmental studies a full panoply of polarized studies that have balkanized and politicized higher education. Doctor, in your view, is this an attempt to shut down the teaching of not just black history but any history but the Hallmark card of white and European history?
