Failed Job Interview Branded 'Racist As Hell' on FX's 'Atlanta'

FX’s Atlanta does not seem to have a high opinion of white people. This week’s story certainly didn't help matters with another obnoxious depiction of black people barely tolerating idiot white people. Can’t we all just get along?

The March 8 episode “Sportin Waves” dives into multiple scenarios where the characters deal with incompetent or annoying white people on a regular basis. Earn’s (Donald Glover) cousin Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry) scowls and rolls his eyes at an all-white streaming company looking to produce his record despite knowing nothing about rap. Later, he and Darius (Lakeith Stanfield) come across an aggravating drug dealer who proceeds to add them to a group text with his “gangsta” white girlfriend. The tip of the iceberg, however, comes from a job interview at the very end of the episode.

Tracy: Yeah. I mean, that might be a big gap in my résumé, but, you know, I think I could be a big help to this organization here. How you doing? I'm great. I think that might be my biggest weakness, because I love learning.

Man: Mmm.

Tracy: You know? You cannot stop me from learning. Like, every day I'm looking for something new to learn.

Man: Well, I think you have a lot of potential.

Tracy: Huh. Yeah. Yeah.

Man: Unfortunately... I don't think we'll be able to offer you a job here right now. It... we're just fully staffed at the moment.

Tracy: Man, fuck y'all. Y'all racist as hell up in here, man! Fuck you want from me, man? Get some black people up in here, that's your motherfucking problem, boy. Shit. I don't want to work for you anyway. AmeriKKK, nigga!

That’s the answer to everything nowadays, isn’t it? If something doesn’t work out for a person "of color," it must be “racist as hell.”
