Sports Media Praises NFL Assistant Coach For Coming Out

July 21st, 2023 12:24 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars strength and conditioning coach Kevin Maxen just came out as gay, becoming the first NFL assistant coach to do so.

Maxen said that he hopes his decision to live in sexual perversion will embolden others to be more open about their choices as well.

“I want to be vocal in support of people living how they want to live, but I also want to just live and not feel fear about how people will react,” Maxen said.

In a normal society, people wouldn't view this as something worth celebrating. Maxen is gay; big deal, thousands of people in America are as well. And even though he is the first NFL assistant to openly acknowledge his sexual choices, there have likely been others before him that chose to not make it a big deal.

But of course, the ever-liberal ESPN is running with this development and giving it all sorts of attention. In fact, the story was posted as a headline on the “Top News” section of its website this morning.

ESPN Headlines

In ESPN’s mind, the only thing in the entire sports world that is more newsworthy than this story is a scandal involving an NFL franchise. Not the fact that the Baltimore Orioles are in first place in the American League East division after the All-Star break for the first time in seven years, or anything in the women’s World Cup, the tournament that features ESPN’s favorite progressive squad, the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT). One man’s sexuality is more important to them than this and all other possible stories.

But it’s not just ESPN who’s enjoying this development. The right-leaning news site “Outkick” framed the story in a favorable light, adding in its headline for the story that it was a first for major sports in America.

Maxen

It’s disappointing that a conservative site is compromising its content to appease the LGBT crowd, but the fact Maxen’s choice is being celebrated like this so strongly is what is really bothersome. It’s not bravery to acknowledge that you’rew gay, especially when all of America in some way supports members of this demographic.

His lifestyle choice should not be praised. But then again, there’s a lot of things these days that shouldn’t be the way they are.
