Two years ago, skipping the Super Bowl champions’ visit to the White House was an unforgivable sin. This year, with Donald Trump the host and president, the left-stream media has discovered a new morality and boycotting is now the principled thing to do.
At least six members of the NFL champion New England Patriots are expected to boycott the team’s White House visit Wednesday. Star quarterback and friend of The Donald’s, Tom Brady, is expected to attend. He did not attend the event two years ago when Barack Obama was president, and just look at the stark difference in how the media played that compared to now.
The New York Post headline in 2015 read: “Tom Brady Blows Off Patriots’ Visit to White House”. The Post’s David Li tore into Brady for “such presidential disrespect.”
Some patriot. … Brady blew off the president and his teammates, citing a prior family commitment. … It’s such an honor to meet the commander-in-chief.
Flash forward to this week’s headlines:
John Sapochetti writes: “When our Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots visit the White House this Wednesday, it will provide an opportunity for a much-needed learning moment. … Not for the Pats players — for President Trump.”
The Sporting News: With boycotting Patriots players, White House visits no longer routine
The Sporting News and other online media sites posted the video “Standing Pats” – a leftist screed that represented practically every radical thing the DNC, Sierra Club and the Human Rights Campaign advocate for. The only thing missing was Dan Rather and Chris Mathews saying “I strongly support this message.” Bill Clinton and Barack Obama could definitely identify with some of the issues raised, though, namely the groping and lying parts, respectively.
The video featured boycotting Patriots’ players McCourty and Long, and some Patriots’ fans, all advocating for the Left and against President Trump. One mom feels the president “is not being a good role model to kids.” A man says, “other things were winning, like lying, groping women and being mean and getting away with it was winning.” Another fan said opposition to Trump is not political, “but moral.” These fans support the boycott because they believe in “democracy,” “being kind to others,” “equal rights for all,” “diversity,” “the environment and drinkable water” and “gender equality,”
On the video, Chris Long, who will play for the Eagles next season, says: "When my son grows up, and I believe the legacy of our president is going to be what it is, I don't want him to say, 'Hey dad. Why did you go when you knew it was wrong?’”
McCourty said: "So for me, it was simple. I don't believe in excluding other people." He also said he wanted to change the perception of a Pats’ fan who says he was tired of the team being labeled "alt-right."
CBS Sports quotes New England running back LeGarrette Blount saying, "I will NOT be going to the White House. I don't feel welcome in that house. I'll leave it at that." And McCourty: "I'm not going to the White House. Basic reason for me is I don't feel accepted in the White House. With the president having so many strong opinions and prejudices I believe certain people might feel accepted there while others won't."
Are these guys for real? Do they think President Trump is going to pull a George Wallace on African-Americans in the White House? The same man who appointed Ben Carson to a high government position?
From his island in a sea of liberal sports media, Fox Sports 1’s Jason Whitlock offered another perspective. “I don’t believe when Brady skipped the Obama meeting it was about race. I believe it was about his politics.” Also, Whitlock said if Brady didn’t want to be bothered by Obama and all the socialist stuff, “more power to him.” … “I want him to go to the White House and wear a Make America Great Again hat. He should not be ashamed of it.”
Speaking to Pro Football Talk Live, Brady said visiting the White House "really is a great experience. Putting politics aside, it never was a political thing. At least, it never was to me. It meant you won a championship and you got to experience something cool with your team, with your teammates. Everyone has their own choice.”
Right, Tom, and for the left-stream media, there is only one choice: shill for the Dems while pounding away on Republicans.
