Captain America Actor Chris Evans Slams Tom Brady For Trump Support

Chris Evans, the vocal progressive who plays the conservative patriot superhero Captain America, just got a full spread in The Hollywood Reporter. His lengthy interview was comprised of all the topics his Hollywood masters have given him permission to speak about, like how it’s his civic duty to trash talk Donald Trump, or the fact that he’d have to “cut ties” with a Tom Brady movie role, because the star QB may be a literal Trump supporter. Gee, Captain America sure sounds petty.

Although Evans began the interview talking about his big movie roles, his dog “Dodger,” and former relationships, the Avengers star pivoted to talking about rebuking Trump supporters online and being a beacon of lefty hope. THR wrote, “[O]n any given day, you can find @ChrisEvans quoting Idiocracy to mock President Trump's McDonald's buffet for the Clemson Tigers, signal-boosting tweets about gay purges in Chechnya, or addressing Sen. Lindsey Graham as ‘Smithers.’"

Wow, just as any good little “woke” boy should. Though Evans wonders whether constantly schooling Trump for his Twitter typos might be a bit obnoxious, his friends reassure him that he’s doing a great job. He claimed, “Marvel has never said anything. On the contrary — when I bump into Kevin Feige [Marvel’s president] the first thing out of his mouth is 'Man, I love what you're doing [on Twitter].”

Feige added, “I see it as very astute, very honorable, very noble, very Cap-like. Commentary and questioning. I've said to him, 'You're merging! You and the character are merging!’” Yes, Who knew both Cap and Evans would both end up fighting their own generations of Nazis? … Right?

It’s all about Evans’ “willingness to call bullshit on anyone abetting the disintegration of our republic,” THR affirmed. That’s why he “campaigned for Hillary Clinton in 2016,” and also why he’s not afraid to criticize star NFL quarterback Tom Brady. When asked about the hypothetical chance to play Brady in a movie, Evans responded grimly.

“I don’t know,” Evans claimed, adding, “I really hope he’s not a Trump supporter. I’m just hoping he’s one of those guys who that maybe supported him and now regrets it.” Of course, these days, Trump affiliation indicates the measure of a man, and Evans clarified that if Brady hasn’t changed his mind, then the actor would have to “cut ties” with the role.

“Maybe he thought it was going to be different — and even that bothers me — but maybe there's a chance now he just thinks Trump's an absolute dumb shit, which he is. If he doesn't, if he's still on that Trump train, I might have to cut ties. It's really tough."

But don’t let Evans’ biased perspective on people different than him rub you the wrong way. His friends claim he’s a good guy. Avengers co-star Robert Downey Jr. insisted, “At the root of it, he has true humility.” Well, in that case, nevermind the hamfisted proggie talking points. We’ll take Robert Downey’s word any day.
