‘Like Cardi B.’: Media Drools Over ‘Political Rock Star’ Socialist

In the increasingly bipolar media coverage, Justice Kennedy retiring is bad, but a socialist winning a Democratic primary is cause for overwhelming, sickening joy.

After Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won the Democratic primary for the district of the Bronx and Queens in New York City, the media dramatically championed the Democratic Socialist’s cause, pushing her into the public eye as “an instant political rock star,” according to the New York Times. From fluff pieces about her lipstick to Trevor Noah calling her “Cardi B,” the liberal media has pledged allegiance to socialism. Now it’s time to make it look trendy.

The Times told her story as if it were a Cinderella rewrite: the “young politician” who had “tended bar until a few months ago” was now beating the establishment figure in “a near landslide.” And don’t forget, this former Bernie Sanders campaign organizer is every inch the perfect politician. She “graciously grants” every request for a picture and preaches her socialist message “cheerfully.” Take hope, progressives: Ocasio-Cortez has “energized the Democrats’ left wing.” Was it her call for federal jobs or universal healthcare that caught their eye?

On the Daily Show, Trevor Noah raved over the video of her win: “I know it’s been a tough year for everyone, so in case you forgot, that face means happy. That’s what that is.” He went on to talk about “how amazing” it would be if she won the election in November. “Not only would she be the youngest female ever elected to Congress, she’d also be the first member of Congress that talks like Cardi B! Like this is so dope!”

The media certainly treats Ocasio-Cortez like the young female rapper Cardi B; the raving over her makeup and appearance has reached a ridiculous level.

In People Magazine, the headline reads: “Congressional Primary Victor Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Reveals Her Power Red Lipstick Shade.” Not only does she want to abolish ICE and provide “healthcare reform for all,” she does it all while wearing a “signature red power lip.”

Conservative women in politics are bashed again and again for their looks, from Kellyanne Conway to Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Conway was even labelled as “desperate” based on her outfit choices, while comedians go after Sanders again and again for her eye makeup, her lipstick, her hair. But a socialist woman comes in preaching all the right things and she’s called an “inspiration” for her lip color that “never appeared to smudge, fade or bleed.”
