Nobel Peace Prize winner and former CNN reporter Maria Ressa continued her book tour on Wednesday’s Amanpour and Company on PBS where she declared that the reason why democracy is backsliding across the world is because the media “lost our gatekeeping powers to technology.”

The chairman of the BBC has indicated “the BBC does have a liberal bias” but added “the institution is fighting against it.” Richard Sharp, in an interview in the Sunday Times, said he and Tim Davie, the director-general, had drawn up a ten-point plan on impartiality, anti-bias training along with reviews of news output in a drive to tackle the problem.

On Friday's PBS NewsHour, New York Times columnist David Brooks responded to a question about lame-duck legislation after several mass shootings. He was pessimistic about anything passing, but touted the idea of "a massive cultural shift" to "regard our common good, more frankly, in a European style," instead of our terribly "individualistic" gun culture. 

NPR calls its evening newscast All Things Considered, a title that’s a nightly lie. Consider their crusading story, “Carrying out executions took a secret toll on workers — then changed their politics.” Some execution workers are so disturbed by their work that they’ve considered suicide. But just weeks earlier, NPR celebrated an abortion clinic in Michigan. No one was disturbed.

A Thursday interview of Equality Florida press secretary Brandon Wolf by PBS Amanpour and Company’s Hari Sreenivasan was taped before the revelation that the Colorado Springs shooter identifies as non-binary, but that is not an excuse for blaming Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and “right-wing influencers” for motivating others to commit or threaten to commit acts of violence.

In September, I found at least eight sappy national interviews with 25-year-old Maxwell Frost in Florida. After he won the general election in a blue district by 19 points and became the first member of Generation Z to win a House seat, the swoon cycle began all over again.
