John Roberts (Justice)
Less than an hour after CNN’s Situation Room host Wolf Blitzer conceded Thursday that “Democrats look like they’re in trouble,” the Erin Burnett OutFront panel lambasted CNN’s beloved 2020 Democrat and Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) for a question that many deemed over the line about the legitimacy of the Supreme Court and Chief Justice John Roberts.
Apparently even the shallowest level of research is too difficult for Washington Post fake “conservative” blogger, Jennifer Rubin. The liberal journalist and MSNBC contributor tried to dunk on President Trump’s lawyers in the Senate impeachment trial with an immature tweet mocking them as inexperienced buffoons. Unfortunately for Rubin, she was the one who ended up looking like a fool.
The premise of Dana Milbank's Washington Post column on Thursday is that the real reason why we are currently experiencing an impeachment process is not due to the Democrats urge to impeach from the moment President Trump was elected in 2016. No, according to Milbank the true impeachment culprit is..... Chief Justice John Roberts. I kid you not.
Despite the fact that Senate Democrats have already determined that President Trump is guilty of what the House of Representatives has accused, MSNBC Live guest host Chris Jansing took the opportunity on Friday to say that it is Republicans who care incapable of holding a fair trial. Not only that, but she held up Kamala Harris as an example of someone who "knows what a fair trial looks like." She added Chief Justice John Roberts to that list as well as Roberts will preside the trial, assuming the House eventually submits the articles to the Senate.
On Monday's New Day on CNN, as fill-in co-host Jim Sciutto and CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin discussed the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to take up a gun case originating in New York, the two fretted that the right-leaning Court might end up barring many gun control proposals that are popular with liberals like more restrictive background checks.
On Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough says "I know" the Roberts Supreme Court won't overturn Roe v. Wade, in light of a recent poll showing only 13% of Americans favor overturning it. Refusing to apply the Constitution, bowing instead to the public sentiment of the day, would represent an appalling abdication of the Court's duty.
On Friday, MSNBC’s Morning Joe was relieved by the Supreme Court’s decision to temporarily block a Louisiana law that would require abortion providers to have hospital admitting privileges. Host Joe Scarborough hailed Chief Justice John Roberts for siding with liberals to impose a stay on the policy until a final ruling was handed down, declaring the move maintained the “integrity” of the high court.
New York Times Supreme Court reporter Adam Liptak sent up a warning flare for Chief Justice John Roberts from the front page of Monday’s New York Times: It would be “dangerous” for the Supreme Court to be seen as conservative. The headline: “As Supreme Court Tips Right, Chief Justice Steers to Center." patting Roberts on the back for his perceived shunning of his more right-leaning Justice colleagues. The Court’s “legitimacy” is a new concern for the media, which for decades was used to it making “progressive” rulings that furthered the liberal agenda without Democrats having to mess with passing actual legislation.
Chief Justice John Roberts has been drawn into President Trump's web. Last week the president criticized the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, based in San Francisco, calling it "a lawless disgrace." The New York Times writes, "Mr. Trump's remarks came after a federal trial judge ordered the administration to resume accepting asylum claims from migrants no matter where or how they entered the United States."
Appearing on Saturday's CNN Newsroom to discuss Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court, CNN presidential historian Douglas Brinkley predicted that he will have a "stain" that he will "carry for the rest of his life," and suggested that conservative Chief Justice John Roberts may move further to the left because he has "great intellect," as if intelligence implies being more liberal.
What is this? Democracy dies in....silence? Thursday afternoon, CNN’s Wolf dedicated a segment with host Wolf Blitzer and Supreme Court analyst Joan Biskupic wondering why the current eight Supreme Court justices have remained silent and not opined on the three-decades-old sexual misconduct allegation against nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Perhaps more insane than anything Biskupic or Blitzer said was this CNN chyron that’s fit for a straightjacket: “Supreme Turmoil; How Justices Feel About Partisan Confirmation Battles.”
The New York Times is trying its best to find dirt on President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, filing an odd public information request with his wife’s employer. And in 2005 they tried to access sealed private records involving then-Bush-nominee John Roberts. Even the paper's commenters weren't convinced of the paper's fairness and balance, wondering where that investigative zeal was when it came to Democratic Supreme Court nominees..
