Rage was evidently the order of the day for the hosts of Univision and Telemundo’s weekly public affairs shows, when they dedicated most of their programs to the subject of the failure of President Obama’s 2014 executive actions on immigration to be upheld by the Supreme Court of the United States.

DAPAgeddon arrived last Thursday, in the form of the Supreme Court's ruling against the Obama Administration's executive amnesties, and news coverage was as awful as one would expect. The time has now come for our domestic Spanish-language media to reflect on its role in the toxic political environment surrounding immigration policy and the coverage it receives therein.   

It has often been said that politics is downstream from culture. But when it comes to Spanish-language media, politics and culture are virtually joined at the hip, as evidenced by recent coverage of an anti-Trump tweetstorm from Mexican actress Kate del Castillo.

During their evening news coverage Wednesday NBC and CBS championed Senate Democrat Chris Murphy’s (Ct.) filibuster for movement on gun control legislation. Reporter Peter Alexander praised Murphy’s actions as, “a filibuster fueled by frustration,” on NBC’s Nightly News. “Democrats commandeering the Senate floor, trying to force a vote to toughen up gun laws,” Alexander continued.

Hillary Clinton’s securing of the delegates necessary to obtain the Democratic Party nomination for President was the subject of fawning coverage on the nation’s top two Hispanic television networks, Univision and Telemundo.

In what could be a preview of things to come, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee failed to have any voices in his corner on the latest round of Sunday talk shows broadcast by leading U.S. Spanish-language television networks Univision and Telemundo.

Media Research Center Founder Brent Bozell appeared on Fox Business Network’s Varney & Company Thursday, to discuss the latest developments in the Telemundo scene staging saga. On June 1, Bozell demanded that Telemundo apologize for the incident and fire the cameraman staging the shot. In response, Telemundo has offered nothing but excuses.

Curiously, America’s top Spanish-language networks Univision and Telemundo have so far failed to inform their viewers that socialist Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has issued a ringing endorsement of the presidential candidacy of his comrade in the United States, Bernie Sanders.
