The legacy media are content to further self-debase by reducing themselves to heralds of the triumphant return of Free Speech Martyr Jimmy Kimmel to late-night television. In so doing, they are turning their focus on the holdout affiliate groups still refusing to air Kimmel unless he can show proof of human decency.

The legacy newscasts decided that Disney/ABC’s restoration of Jimmy Kimmel Live! would sit at the top of the A-block- top story on ABC and NBC, and second story on CBS. In many ways, this editorial decision exemplifies both the media’s disconnect from the public they claim to serve, and the insular circling of the wagons for one of their own under duress.

It’s been a week since Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was assassinated by a trans-adjacent (allegedly) leftist with a grudge. Despite a press conference by the local prosecutor with extensive details, the legacy newscasts avoided any discussion of the shooter’s motive.  

The legacy media are fighting the motive narrative battle with the intensity of the last Japanese soldier in the Philippine jungles after the end of World War II. CBS, in particular, is insisting on a lack of motive in the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

Along with celebrating older Americans pretending it’s the 1960s all over again by becoming hooked on marijuana and lamenting the Supreme Court gave President Trump the green light to continue mass deportation raids in cities like Los Angeles, Monday’s CBS Evening News provided yet another example of the liberal bias for new ownership to fix. The horrendous murder of Ukrainian refugee Irina Zarutska aboard a Charlotte, North Carolina light rail has taken a significant turn for the worse, with the release of video showing Zarutzka’s heartbreaking final moments. But the legacy media appear to be already running away from an inconvenient story.

On Monday’s CBS Evening News, the show’s “Eye on America” segment celebrated the supposed surge in elderly Americans — increasingly consisting of the Baby Boomer generation — have become hooked on marijuana. Between, say, 2009 and 2016, CBS went through a period where it repeatedly celebrated pot and became infatuated with every nook and cranny of the drug infecting American society (…

In what has become a predictable and boring exercise, the legacy news media freak out over a Supreme Court action that puts a stop to activist obstruction of President Trump’s agenda. This time, on immigration, with the added bonus of a freakout over the president’s "Chipocalypse Now” meme.

And on the 17th day, the legacy media finally got around to reporting the brutal murder of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska on board a Charlotte light rail. Rather than simply reporting the inconvenient story straight up, though, NBC saw fit to engage in a little Trumpwashing.

A common feature of legacy media coverage leading up to the 2024 presidential campaign was their collective reluctance and/or outright refusal to cover heinous crimes that reflected poorly on key Democrat policies. With the 2026 midterms over a year out, it appears that the media are reverting to form. 

As is often the case with legacy newscasts, an item reported with great fanfare becomes discarded once it is no longer useful to a narrative. Such is the case with details of what was seized during last week’s raid of John Bolton’s home.
