ABC Finds ‘Some Mainstream Christians Are Concerned’ About Perry R

August 8th, 2011 7:25 AM
On both Good Morning America and World News, two different ABC correspondents filed separate reports recounting that some Christians oppose Texas Governor Rick Perry’s prayer rally from the weekend, but, in both reports, clips of left-wing figures like the Reverend Barry Lynn of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, and Drew Courtney of People for the American Way were shown…

Dowd Column Lauds Movie Reconstructing Bin Laden Operation -- To Be Re

August 7th, 2011 11:58 PM
In an otherwise typically dismal column about President Barack Obama which is one part pity party and another part an attempt at building him a he-man reputation (not kidding), New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd describes an upcoming movie featuring the exploits of Navy SEAL Team 6 in the operation which killed Osama Bin Laden on May 1. Dowd celebrates the fact that the movie's currently…

Bill Maher: 'Mormonism Is Closer To Islam' Than It Is Christianity

August 4th, 2011 12:23 AM
The more I watch Bill Maher, the more I think he's either a complete idiot or just says moronic, inflammatory things to get attention. His most recent absurdity, said on MSNBC's "The Ed Show" Wednesday, was that Mormonism is closer to Islam than it is to Christianity (video follows with transcript and commentary):

After Ignoring Islamic Affiliation of Terrorists, Media Push Incorrect

August 2nd, 2011 11:21 AM
Most journalists would never correlate terrorism with Islam for fear of being criticized as Islamophobic, but now they are relishing in the opportunity to connect Norwegian terrorist Anders Breivik to Christianity using a fairly weak link. Breivik, who published a manifesto hours before his shooting spree, discussed his cultural connection to Christianity only as a vehicle by which he could…

NYT Trumpets Female Catholic 'Priests' For Second Week In a Row; HuffP

August 2nd, 2011 12:04 AM
For the second week in a row, the New York Times has embraced the mission of trumpeting the fruitless cause of female "priests" in the Catholic Church. What gives? As faulty as Laurie Goodstein's article was last week, the offering from Dirk Johnson (Sun., 7/31/11) doesn't fare much better. Johnson's one-sided piece omits a number of important facts in reporting the issue.

Archdiocese Blasts Magazine Over 'Agenda-driven Travesty of Salacious

July 28th, 2011 5:37 PM
This past month, Philadelphia magazine published what can only described as a vulgar, unfair, and reckless piece of yellow journalism designed to shock readers and lambaste the Catholic Church. Utilizing anonymous and discredited sources, writer Robert Huber authored a lengthy article seeking to portray the Church as a callous cabal that is oblivious to the pain of child sex abuse. Enter…

WaPo 'On Faith' Contributor Blames Christianity for Oslo Bombing, Shoo

July 26th, 2011 12:21 PM
With a post entitled "When Christianity becomes lethal," liberal theologian and Center for American Progress senior fellow Susan Brooks Thislethwaite took to the Washington Post's "On Faith" blog yesterday to indict conservative Christian theology as a catalyst for the terror espoused by Norwegian bomber/shooter Anders Behring Breivik:

Is Abortion a Sacrament to the Left? WaPo 'On Faith' Page Promotes Puf

July 26th, 2011 11:18 AM
Yesterday I wrote about the Washington Post's 40-paragraph July 25 puff piece on Nebraska abortionist LeRoy Carhart, who last December opened a clinic in Germantown, Md. Today, the WashingtonPost.com's "On Faith" religious news section features a link to the story, with the following teaser headline and caption [see screen capture posted below page break]:

HuffPo's Frank Schaeffer Compares U.S. Evangelicals to Taliban, MSNBC

July 25th, 2011 5:02 PM
Frank Schaeffer -- the embittered liberal progeny of the late evangelical Christian scholar Francis Schaeffer -- appeared on MSNBC's "Martin Bashir" program this afternoon where he availed himself the opportunity to spew forth more venom against American evangelicals, who tend to vote for conservative Republicans. Schaeffer was ostensibly brought on to react to new polling data that show 56…

While Trumpeting 'Female Priests,' NYT's Goodstein Commits More Faulty

July 25th, 2011 1:44 PM
When reporting stories concerning the Catholic Church, the New York Times' Laurie Goodstein has had a very troublesome track record with the facts. (For starters: 1, 2.) Unfortunately, Goodstein's record only gets worse after another faulty and misleading front-page article (Sat., 7/23/11). In attempting to trumpet the case for "female priests" in the Catholic Church, Goodstein and the…

CBS Gives Michael Bloomberg Forum to Promote Same-Sex Marriage

July 24th, 2011 4:57 AM
Saturday’s The Early Show on CBS gave New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg an unchallenged forum to promote his views favoring same-sex marriage as the show celebrated New York’s recent legalization of gay marriage by interviewing a gay couple who are planning to get married. As Mayor Bloomberg will be performing the ceremony because the two are members of his staff, the mayor also took part…

Bachmann and the Pope

July 21st, 2011 5:54 PM
It seems Rep. Michele Bachmann is under increased scrutiny for her religious views, even as she climbs ever higher in the presidential polls. With tea party support, she is now No. 2 in the Republican polls even though she has been in the race for only a short time. The numero uno, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, is himself the victim of gentler bigotry for his religious views. He is a…

CNN Belief Blog Contributor Damns GOP Taking Political Pledges As 'Unb

July 21st, 2011 5:40 PM
The CNN Belief Blog's latest hit-job on Republicans involved Boston University religion scholar Stephen Prothero pronouncing that Republican politicians taking conservative pledges is "unbiblical" and "unchristian." Republicans have made news recently for taking pledges that are anti-tax, pro-life, and opposing same-sex marriage. According to Prothero, the Bible argues that the "recent orgy…

NPR Portrays Muslim Professor as Victim; Omits Sexual Harassment Recor

July 20th, 2011 8:31 PM
NPR's Dina Temple-Raston did her best to cast a Muslim fired by the State of Ohio in a sympathetic light on Monday's Morning Edition, describing him as a "college professor" dressed in a "tweed jacket, button-down shirt, [and] thick round glasses," but failed to mention his other firing from a Ohio college for violating their sexual harassment policy. Temple-Reston also featured an expert who…
