Sharpton Asks Clyburn to Decry McCarthy Removing Democrats from Committees

November 28th, 2022 4:48 PM

On Sunday’s Politics Nation, MSNBC host Al Sharpton asked outgoing House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn about how Kevin McCarthy is running for House Speaker and is threatening to remove Ilhan Omar, Eric Swalwell, and Adam Schiff from House committees.

Sharpton mangled Omar's name:

To that end, he has pledged to remove three of your colleagues – uh, Elliani Omar, Alon Omar – Eric Swalwell and Adam Schiff from House committee assignments in January if he’s successful. Republicans will have a very narrow majority in the next Congress. Do you see him getting the majority votes he needs for these removals, if he becomes speaker, that is?

Notice he mangled the black lady's name, and not the white guys.

As usual, they pretend the last Congress didn't have a narrow Democrat majority when they stripped "MAGA" Republicans of committee assignments.

Clyburn turned to religion metaphors, suggesting McCarthy is playing God:

CLYBURN: Well, you’re a minister. I’m a PK, a preacher's kid, and today is Sunday. “Vengeance is mine says the Lord.” I would say it to Mr. McCarthy, don't put yourself in the place of meting out vengeance. Let's try to run this country. Let's do the things that are necessary to make people's lives better. So that they can prepare to pass on to their children and their grandchildren a country better than they found it.

Going out, doing this retribution. Doing to a member something that you perceived as being unfair to one of your members, when everyone knows that there is just cause for those people being removed from their committee. You cannot do it “just because.” You’ve gotta have just cause.

So when Democrats do it, it's a just cause, and when Republicans return the "favor," Clyburn insisted it's time to unite the country, not time for "tit for tat."

At the top of the interview, Sharpton performed unintentional comedy by suggesting both parties have always recognized the Justice Department as independent and nonpartisan. In reality, Democrats questioned the independence of the DOJ under Trump, and Bush, and Bush, and Reagan....
