NEW NewsBusters Podcast: Netflix Invents NRA's Nasty Jesus and Recalling Newsom

March 17th, 2021 9:30 PM

In the world of streaming video, Disney Plus is busy adding content warnings to cartoons like Aladdin, apologizing for anyone offended by stereotyping. Meanwhile Netflix offers no content warning when they ran a nasty episode of their cartoon Paradise P.D., which satirized the National Rifle Association by imagining the NRA made a film about how Jesus Christ could have machine-gunned himself off the cross and then had sex with two hot babes.

There is no sensitivity about the feelings of Christians for how their God is mocked as an adulterous commando. You can't mock Mohammed like this. You can't even draw Mohammed for a cartoon of any kind. That would be dangerous.

Also: Don Lemon was selling his book about racism on ABC's The View, but the chatter took a detour into how Jesus looks more like a Muslim than like a white hippie from Sweden. Lemon the theologian also insisted God does not judge us or hinder us in any way. There were no religious authorities there to object with some scriptural analysis.

Then NewsBusters associate editor Scott Whitlock joins the fun to discuss how the media has suddenly discovered the newsworthiness of the recall effort against California Gov. Gavin Newsom. We also discussed the media dismissals of the border crisis and looked ahead to the President Biden's first formal press conference.
