Manassas, Virginia Abortion Clinic Closes; WashPost Hasn't Noticed

Pro-life activists around my home near Manassas, Virginia are celebrating the news that the town’s abortion clinic, Amethyst Health Center for Women, closed at the end of September. I wondered if this news had been located by The Washington Post, with wailing and gnashing of teeth. I hadn’t seen it on my own. A Nexis search confirms there’s been no discovery.

According to local Fox station WTTG, Amethyst is closing because the owner has decided to retire. The 76-year-old widow wanted to remain anonymous but told Fox her reason for shutting down. She said, “When you are in this line of work, you know, I have fought a battle for 27 years. And I did it with love in my heart to help the women. But comes a time in life that you retire.”

She complained about "harassment" from protesters, but our church members quietly pray nearby.

There are only three abortion facilities left in Northern Virginia and those may be affected by health and safety regulations that were implemented a few years back by Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell.

As LifeNews.com previously reported, in June and December of 2012, a 48-page inspection report of Amethyst Health Center for Women listed multiple deficiencies including infection prevention citations, storage and dispensing of drugs citations, quality assurance citations, maintenance citations, and local and state code standards citations.
