Joe Scarborough: Trump Will ‘Cash Out,’ Not Run in 2020

October 19th, 2018 5:22 PM

Morning Joe co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski went on Stephen Colbert’s Late Show, Thursday, to praise liberal candidates, bash Donald Trump and make wild predictions. Scarborough insisted that Trump won’t even run in 2020: “I don't think Donald Trump is going to run for reelection. He didn't want to be elected for president. He didn't think he was going to be elected.”

He continued the mind reading: “He didn’t even think he was going to get the Republican nomination. He's going to cash out.” Well, mark that prediction down to come back to. Brzezinski cheered California’s liberal senator: “I love Kamala Harris!”

Regarding a question about the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, Brzezinski cynically linked this brutal act to Trump’s criticism of the liberal media:

STEPHEN COLBERT: So many stories —  admittedly, the President said either today or yesterday this story of Mr. Khashoggi has captured the imagination of the nation, if not the world I think partly because to have the horrible thing that we're imagining. But so many terrible things happen and it. Why do you think this one will have a lasting impact?

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Because this president has been calling the press the enemy of the people, and I can tell you we're not going to let this go. We're not going to let this go, the Washington Post is not going to let this go. The New York Times is not going to let this go. Also, in terms of how we conduct our foreign policy, we can't be a joke. We can't be siding with the Saudis when they murder a Washington Post columnist. That can't be our reality and, at some point, this has to end in one way or another.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: In these past two news cycles, Donald Trump has gotten really good at being a really bad president. If you look at what happened with the Brett Kavanaugh hearings, that was exactly what he wanted. He sowed doubt on both sides, had both sides fighting each other and got exactly what he wanted, someone who is unfit for the highest court in the land elevated to the highest court in the land. Now he's sowing doubt in our foreign policy, he's making us look like a joke around the world. We are — every time he opens his mouth, we go down a peg internationally. We'll pay for that for years to come.

[Talking about Jamal Khashoggi death.]

COLBERT: Usually, even if you have a sitting president, there's somebodywho challenges the incumbent president, if only they kind of give the president a workout during the primary season, keep him in the news, keep him in the news cycle. Do you think there is anyone who will step up and challenge President Trump in 2020?

SCARBOROUGH:  I think so. But I will say it again I don't think that they will have to step up to challenge Donald Trump because I don't think Donald Trump is going to run for reelection. He didn't want to be elected for president. He didn't think he was going to be elected. He didn’t even think he was going to get the Republican nomination. He's going to cash out.
