MSNBC's Scarborough Suggests Trump Voters Are Too Incompetent to Handle 'Anything Sharp'

April 17th, 2018 7:19 PM

During Monday's edition of Morning Joe, co-host Joe Scarborough argued that anyone who subscribed to the idea that former FBI Director James Comey and former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe have an animus against President Trump should not handle “anything sharp because you will hurt yourself because you are too incompetent actually to use any basic household appliances.”

Not surprisingly, the panel had plenty to say about Comey’s interview with ABC’s George Stephanopolous ahead of the release of his book A Higher Loyalty. Co-host Mika Brzezinski brought up a Washington Post report claiming that White House officials set up a meeting between President Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at Mar-a-lago at the time of the book’s release in an effort to “distract President Trump from what James Comey would say.”

After Brzezinski pointed out that Comey served as the target of “six of the seven tweets President Trump sent before heading out to play golf,” her fiancé Scarborough jeered that the President’s advisors decided to “use Japan to distract the President from acting like a child.” The duo could have also pointed out that Comey’s obsession with the President’s “bright white half moons” under his eyes could also fall into the “acting like a child” category.

After Brzezinski read aloud a Trump tweet about Comey, Scarborough weighed in: “It needs to be repeated as much as possible that the President is claiming that he was the victim of a conspiracy that elected him President.”

As the chyron at the bottom of the screen read “Trump Launches Twitter Tirade Against Comey,” Scarborough and Brzezinski launched a tirade against Trump voters. After assuring the American people that “James Comey’s letter did as much as anything, other than Hillary Clinton’s bad campaigning, electing Donald Trump President,” Scarborough argued that “if you are at home and you don’t understand that and you’re buying into some stupid conspiracy theory that somebody on TV is telling you, please step away from your kitchen utensils and knives and blenders.”

The insults continued with Scarborough saying that he did not even trust “these people” to handle a “manual egg beater,” while Brzezinski worried that they would “get their fingers stuck in it.”

As the segment continued to fly off the rails, Scarborough painted a graphic visual: “Because you know what, they might go, wait, is this something that trims my nose hair? I mean, they’re doing this, and there’s blood coming out all over the place.” In his post-congressional career spanning nearly two decades, Scarborough has become quite well-known for graphic imagery, once comparing President Trump to a child pooping his pants.

Scarborough gave one final piece of advice to Trump voters “Put yourself in bubble wrap and slowly walk back into your bedroom and put the, make sure you can breathe, and then put the covers over your head because this is so obvious that you, I really find it hard to believe that you are as stupid as anybody that’s pushing these conspiracy theories.”

The “conspiracy theories” that the Morning Joe hosts refer to argue that the top officials at the FBI, including Comey and McCabe have been working to remove President Trump from office. ABC’s one-hour special actually managed to bolster that argument, as it highlighted how Comey’s wife and daughters actively supported Hillary Clinton’s Presidential Campaign and went to the Women’s March.

In 2018, late night TV and left-wing political commentary have become indistinguishable. Morning Joe now relies heavily on sophomoric humor once reserved for late night TV, while ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live makes more of an effort to dabble in liberal politics than carry out its actual purpose: to make people laugh. As Trump Derangement Syndrome continues to spread, expect more segments and tirades like this one that appeared on Morning Joe Monday morning.

MSNBC's Morning Joe

April 16, 2018

06:08 a.m. Eastern

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: So a report in The Washington Post claims White House officials tried to distract President Trump from what James Comey would say. Administration officials said aides were so concerned about Comey’s book that they scheduled Trump to be at his Mar-a-lago estate for a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the same time as the book’s release. Comey was the target of six of the seven tweets President Trump sent before heading out to play golf.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: We’re going to use Japan to distract the President from acting like a child.

BRZEZINSKI: This is where we are.

SCARBOROUGH: We are going to use Japan.

BRZEZINSKI: In one tweet, Trump claimed “James Comey states that Polls, where Crooked Hillary was leading, were a factor in handling (stupidly) of the Clinton Email probe. In other words, he was making decisions based on the fact that he thought she was going to win, and he wanted a job. Slimeball!” That’s our President.

SCARBOROUGH: What Comey was referring to was his decision to reveal new evidence eleven days before the 2016 election. “I was operating in a world where Hillary Clinton was going to beat Donald Trump…if I hide this from the American people, she’ll be illegitimate the moment she’s elected, the moment this comes out.” Comey also…

SCARBOROUGH: All right. All right. I just…you know, again…

BRZEZINSKI: Well, let’s…

SCARBOROUGH: I just…it needs to be repeated as much as possible that the President is claiming that he was the victim of a conspiracy that elected him President.

BRZEZINSKI: Exactly.

SCARBOROUGH: James Comey’s letter did as much as anything, other than Hillary Clinton’s bad campaigning, electing Donald Trump President. McCabe leaking about the Clinton Foundation being under investigation hurt Hillary Clinton. Now, if you are at home, and you don’t understand that and you’re buying into some stupid conspiracy theory at home that somebody on TV is telling you, please step away from your kitchen utensils and knives and blenders.

BRZEZINSKI: Anything sharp.

SCARBOROUGH: Anything sharp because you will hurt yourself because you are too incompetent actually to use any basic household appliances. Let me state again, the President of the United States won in large part because of James Comey.

JOHN HEILEMANN: Are egg beaters okay?

SCARBOROUGH: No. I don’t even trust these people…

HEILEMANN: …To be near an egg beater? A manual egg beater?

SCARBOROUGH: No, not even a manual egg beater.

BRZEZINSKI: They get their fingers stuck in it.

SCARBOROUGH: Because you know what, they might go, wait, is this something that trims my nose hair? I mean, they’re doing this, and there’s blood coming out all over the place.

BRZEZINSKI: Stop.

SCARBOROUGH: If you don’t…stay away from it. Stay away from it. Just, you know what, put yourself…

BRZEZINSKI: The President thinks you’re that stupid…

SCARBOROUGH: Put yourself in bubble wrap and slowly walk back into your bedroom and put the, make sure you can breathe, and then put the covers over your head because this is so obvious that you, I really find it hard to believe that you are as stupid as anybody that’s pushing these conspiracy theories. James Comey did more than anybody in America other than Hillary Clinton to elect Donald Trump.
