Robert De Niro: Jailing Donald Trump Would ‘Make America Great Again’

Many people in Hollywood think they know better than the rest of us when it comes to politics and who should occupy the White House. One of those individuals -- Robert De Niro -- has been trashing DonaldTrump every time the actor gets near a microphone.

That behavior was in full display on Sunday evening, when De Niro was supposed to announce recipients of lifelong accomplishment trophies at the American Icon Awards gala in Los Angeles. Of course, he saw that as an opportunity to slam the President by claiming that putting the GOP official in prison as the way to “Make America Great Again."

The liberal activist could barely contain himself when he stood at the podium:

[T]he individual who currently purports to lead America is not worthy of any tribute or cheers unless you think of his impeachment and imprisonment as a sort of tribute.

Now that’s how you can “make America great again.”

De Niro was supposed to start by praising the recipients. Instead of promoting the philanthropic organization’s mission of “Honoring Excellence in Leadership in Business, Entertainment, Sports and Education,” the liberal actor began by asking: “You didn’t think that you were completely gonna get away without a 'F**k Trump' moment, did you?”

De Niro was referring to his appearance on stage at the 72nd Annual Tony Awards last June, when he stood before a live audience and stated:“I’m going to say one thing: 'F**k Trump!'” He added: “It’s no longer 'Down with Trump.' It’s 'F**k Trump.'”

At the event on Sunday, the actor received loud cheers -- and some boos -- when he stated the three honorees were part of a ceremony that “[t]he professors of the American Icon Awards called ... ‘a tribute to individuals who lead America.’”

“Not so fast,” De Niro stated. “Maybe they should be, but they do fill their own essential roles,” he continued before stating the recipients are “people of great individual accomplishments who give us examples to look up to. They’ve earned our respect and admiration, and they deserve this tribute.”

On the other hand, the actor continued, Trump only deserves “impeachment and imprisonment.”

Of course, the liberal activist wasn’t always so critical of the occupant of the White House. In May of 2012, De Niro defended then-President Barack Obama for “having done a good job” and stated that the GOP should “stop criticizing” the Democrat.

After the 2016 presidential election, the liberal activist was a guest on the NBC Today program and jumped at the chance to voice his support for Democrats who planned to boycott Trump’s inauguration.

The 2018 midterm election results saw De Niro slam Trump as “disgraceful” and “one of the worst that I have ever seen,” along with more expletive-laden rants while a guest on CNN International. And the actor was one of the liberals who held out the longest in the hope that Special Counsel Robert Mueller might still incriminate Trump on charges of collusion last April.

We can only wonder how far De Niro is willling to go as we approach the upcoming 2020 presidential contest.
