Five years ago in 2021 a leftist Canadian journalist by the name of Duncan Kinney reported on the defacement of a statue. Here is the first paragraph of his report as it appeared in his Progress Report story, "Nazi collaborator monuments in Edmonton defaced with red paint and words 'Actual Nazi' and “Nazi Monument.”

Edmonton's statue of Roman Shukhevych, an infamous Ukrainian Nazi collaborator, has once again been defaced with red paint. This time, a second local monument—a memorial honouring the 14th Waffen SS Division—was targeted as well.

Although his periodical, Progress Report, is a far left publication, to its credit that paragraph was followed by an important editorial update on Monday:

Editor’s note: On October 19, 2026, Duncan Kinney admitted in a statement to the courts that the vandal of this statue was in fact himself. For transparency’s sake, we are keeping his article up. Mr. Kinney left The Progress Report in early 2025 and will not return.

The Edmonton Journal provided more background on the leftist journalist who has the distinction of not only reporting fake news but of creating the very fake news he was reporting on Monday in "Ex-journalist admits to defacing Edmonton Ukrainian monument with anti-Nazi graffiti, writing about it."

Ex-journalist Duncan Kinney has pleaded guilty to spray painting a controversial Edmonton Ukrainian monument with the words “actual Nazi,” admitting he then wrote an article about the vandalism claiming an unknown party was responsible.

Kinney, the former editor of the leftwing news site Progress Report, was charged with mischief four years ago for allegedly defacing two memorials in the summer of 2021. He pleaded guilty Monday to spray painting a bust of Roman Shukhevych at the Ukrainian Youth Unity Complex, 9615 153 Ave NW.

Kinney admitted he rode his bike to the complex after midnight on Aug. 10, 2021, hopped a fence and sprayed the Shukhevych bust’s face and plinth with anti-Nazi graffiti. He then returned after sunrise to take photos, and emailed the Ukrainian Youth Unity Complex, asking for comment and their opinion on whether Shukhevych was a Nazi.

...According to an agreed statement of facts filed Monday, images of Kinney defacing the monument were captured on the complex’s security cameras. The video was not shown in court, though a photo of Kinney’s return trip to the centre was entered as an exhibit.

...Kinney was initially scheduled to face a two-week jury trial Monday, but opted last week to plead guilty. Defence lawyer Tom Engel said he will seek an expert report ahead of sentencing, which will examine “what factors contributed to him committing this offence.”

Kinney, who has since begun training for a career in psychiatric nursing, declined to comment.

"Training for a career in psychiatric nursing?" Why? So he could treat supposed journalists reporting on fake news such as himself who went the extra distance to create it as well?
