Gutfeld Ridicules NYT for Trying to Make an Old Trump Story a New Scandal

After The New York Times published their story last week about President Trump losing $1 billion in the 80s and 90s, did you feel like you already knew about that? So did everyone else, because Trump’s financial problems during that time were well documented. So, during his late Saturday night show, Fox News Channel host Greg Gutfeld ripped into the Times for trying to drop “a bombshell revealed to millions of people on national TV over a decade and a half ago.”

“But I guess when you can’t find any news to match your delusions, you’ll make anything else news…,” Gutfeld ripped, after suggesting the paper just discovered the popularity of the movie Home Alone and the singer Vanilla Ice.

Playing a clip from Trump’s reality TV show, The Apprentice, Gutfeld pointed out that Trump admitted to what the Times found back in 2004. “About 13 years ago, I was seriously in trouble. I was billions of dollars in debt. But I thought back and I won bigly,” Trump said.

“What other bombshells will the Times gleam from reality TV? That Kim Kardashian once more leggings? One of the real housewife through a glass of merlot at another real housewife? That someone on Survivor ate a bug,” Gutfeld mocked. “But under Trump, real news is skipped for the old news because when the real news is good, the media’s got to find conflict in the past to make their present bearable.”

Gutfeld then turned to call out the liberal media writ large for all reading off the same “script” and being “sheep”. After showing off soundbites of media folks renewing fears and speculation of Trump refusing to leave office and declaring a “constitutional crisis”, he jokingly wondered if the media would accuse Trump of being a member of ISIS.

If the media wants you to think there is unstable tyrant barricading himself in the Oval Office, then who’s trying to create the crisis really? And to what end? What do they want to happen,” he wondered.

In wrapping up his opening monologue, Gutfeld deducing that “they’re still trying to undo 2016 instead of trying to win 2020. It’s the loser's response to losing. Winners admit they’re wrong and they change but not here. Instead, they just digging a deeper grave as they reelect the person who keeps handing them the shovels.”

GREG GUTFELD: In other news, The New York Times had a big scoop: Trump lost a bundle in the nineties! I know, it’s amazing. Also, that movie Home Alone looks like a hit. And how about that Vanilla Ice guy, huh? Mark my words, that fella is going places. But I guess when you can’t find any news to match your delusions, you’ll make anything else news including what Trump actually talked about 15 years ago.

DONALD TRUMP: About 13 years ago, I was seriously in trouble. I was billions of dollars in debt. But I thought back and I won bigly.

GUTFELD: Good job Times, you really dropped a bombshell. A bombshell revealed to millions of people on national TV over a decade and a half ago. What other bombshells will the Times gleam from reality TV? That Kim Kardashian once more leggings? One of the real housewife through a glass of merlot at another real housewife? That someone on Survivor ate a bug?

So, is it journalism when somebody gives you someone else’s tax returns? It’s odd, nobody in the media minds how the Times got’em. But under Trump, real news is skipped for the old news because when the real news is good the media’s got to find conflict in the past to make their present bearable.

GUTFELD: So the point is, the media drenched in its own failure has to reanimate old fears. Remember that story from months ago about Trump never leaving office? Well, it is back.

GUTFELD: So, what is the crisis really? That they are out of ideas? That they all share the same script? That they’re all sheep without the benefit of supplying plush wool sweaters?

GUTFELD: So, now the media and the Democrats accuse Trump of the very worst. So, what’s the next stop on this crazy train? Let's review. The first stop was Trump's unstable. The second stop, he’s insane. The third stop, he’s a Russian spy who stole the election. Fourth stop, he won’t leave office. The fifth stop, he created a constitutional crisis.

So, what's next? Could he be an ISIS? And Maroon 5? If the media wants you to think there is unstable tyrant barricading himself in the Oval Office, then who’s trying to create the crisis really? And to what end? What do they want to happen?

It’s sad, they’re still trying to undo 2016 instead of trying to win 2020. It’s the loser's response to losing. Winners admit they’re wrong and they change but not here. Instead, they just digging a deeper grave as they reelect the person who keeps handing them the shovels.
