MSNBC Off the Rails: Demand Dems Ignore the Racist Mueller Report

March 24th, 2019 10:55 AM

At different points during their Saturday programming, MSNBC host Joy Reid and her panelists got out their tin-foil hats as they spun wild conspiracy theories of about the Special Counsel’s report and the Trump family. Between claims of racism by the investigators and claims of a collusion “cover-up”, the crazy train was doing full speed out of the station.

MSNBC counterterrorism analyst Malcolm Nance was irate at Congressional Democrats, during the first half of AM Joy, because they weren’t pursuing impeachment, a.k.a “defending democracy”. “These guys are failing in their fundamental constitutional duty. Is it going to take Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to have to come and tweet something for them to get all worked up? Defend democracy,” he shouted.

He then demanded that the Democrats ignore what was in the Special Counsel’s report and “go to town” on President Trump anyway:

What’s the army motto? This we'll defend. They should be saying, right now, I don't care what's in that report, we're going to go to town and we’re going to find out what the facts are. And you know what? We were attacked. That's one component of it. But the other things, the most corrupt administration in the history of the United States, we're going to find out because this nation is far better and worth the effort.

The conspiracy theories were only just beginning to roll when Reid herself threw out speculation that Attorney General William Barr was trying to “cover-up” Trump’s collusion with Russia by reviewing the report.

“The fact that this investigation takes place within the Justice Department which Donald Trump essentially controls and he got rid of the problem, Jeff Sessions, who the one decent thing that he did was recuse himself, this guy is not recused [Attorney General William Barr], it feels like the seeds of a cover-up are here,” she asserted.

Nance tried to ease her fears by noting that if a cover-up happened it would be swiftly leaked by someone. “So, this could be the Pentagon papers in a sense,” Reid deduced. “The challenge I think Malcolm, if there are implications in this report that Donald Trump actually is or was an agent of a foreign power, it feels like the American people deserve to know that.”

For two years we’ve been told by the liberal media that Trump’s “attacks” against the Special Counsel investigation were assaults on our democracy and institutions. But now that the report was written and no further indictments were expected to be handed out, it meant it was open season and the investigators were racist.

That’s according to AboveTheLaw.com editor Elie Mystal, who said that Trump’s adult children should throw a party because “they won the white privilege regatta”, later that day during MSNBC Live.

There's not an African-American person in this country that could have been investigated for 22 months, had their family investigated for 22 months and come away scot-free,” he fumed, suggesting they would shoot (“pop”) him for sharing his Netflix password with his wife.

Mystal was figuratively foaming at the mouth to get after Trump’s family: “While I fundamentally agree there are more avenues of investigation against these people, there’s going to be an SDNY investigation, there’s the inaugural committee, there's a lot of other ways to get at the children.”

It’s unlikely there's going to be anything in that Mueller report that's going to satisfy me in terms of why these people weren't even brought in under oath for questioning,” he exclaimed.

Later that hour, Nance was back with even more off the wall declarations. This time he was adamant that Trump was a “legitimate” threat to America:

Donald Trump is legitimate. He's a legitimate tyrant. He's a legitimate dictator in waiting. I mean, he’s a legitimate autocrat. You know, I was thinking about this a moment ago. I'm from Philadelphia. I was raised in the history of the American Revolution. If he starts housing soldiers in our homes, he will have fulfilled all of the intolerable act of King George III. So, we may have to, you know, refer to the Declaration of Independence.

Nance is the same guy that “nominated” Trump Tower Istanbul to get hit by an “ISIS suicide bombing”.

MALCOLM NANCE: These guys are failing in their fundamental constitutional duty. Is it going to take Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to have to come and tweet something for them to get all worked up? They should be saying, right now, I don't care what's in that report, we're going to go to town and we’re going to find out what the facts are. And you know what? We were attacked. JOY REID: The fact that this investigation takes place within the Justice Department which Donald Trump essentially controls and he got rid of the problem, Jeff Sessions, who the one decent thing that he did was recuse himself, this guy is not recused [Attorney General William Barr], it feels like the seeds of a cover-up are here.

NANCE: I mean, theoretically it could happen, right. These are humans all fallible maybe he does feel some sort of loyalty to him. But you know, that's -- Bill Barr is one guy. There are secretaries, there are people who have to handle these documents. There are the FBI agents who did this themselves. I don't think that there's room for a cover-up because why cover up the greatest scandal in the history of the United States with the greatest scandal in the history of the United States. An attorney general trying to engineer that. I don't believe that's going to happen because if they do, then you can just see copies of this thing falling out by the palate load in front of The Washington Post.

REID: So, this could be the Pentagon papers in a sense. The challenge I think Malcolm, if there are implications in this report that Donald Trump actually is or was an agent of a foreign power, it feels like the American people deserve to know that.

NANCE: They do deserve to know that. The only thing we don't deserve to know -- and I’ll say this as the former spy on the panel -- you don’t need to know which intelligence agency dialed to what frequency to collect whatever. Right? All you need to know is some stuff was collected, it was collected technically and it said X.

ELIE MYSTAL: Look. If I'm the Trump children, I'm having a party tonight. Right? They won the white privilege regatta. All right. You cannot investi-- There's not an African-American person in this country that could have been investigated for 22 months, had their family investigated for 22 months and come away scot-free. If they’ve done that to me, they'd pop me for sharing Netflix password with my wife.

CYNTHIA ALKSNE: You did that? That's not allowed.

MYSTAL: While I fundamentally agree there are more avenues of investigation against these people, there’s going to be an SDNY investigation, there’s the inaugural committee, there's a lot of other ways to get at the children. In this particular case, these grown adult children who were part of what appears to be the collusion or the conspiracy with Russia, the point people in that, these people have escaped scot-free with no indictments and there's going to be nothing in that Mueller report that is – It’s unlikely there's going to be anything in that Mueller report that's going to satisfy me in terms of why these people weren't even brought in under oath for questioning.

REID: In the end, Malcolm Nance, what Donald Trump wants the most is legitimacy. He wants to be seen as legitimate. You heard the great John Lewis – legendary John Lewis say he didn't see him as a legitimate president. That's what Trump wants.

NANCE: Yeah. But you know what? Donald Trump is legitimate. He's a legitimate tyrant. He's a legitimate dictator in waiting. I mean, he’s a legitimate autocrat. You know, I was thinking about this a moment ago. I'm from Philadelphia. I was raised in the history of the American Revolution. If he starts housing soldiers in our homes, he will have fulfilled all of the intolerable act of King George III. So, we may have to, you know, refer to the Declaration of Independence.

REID: Get your history books out.
