Morning Joe and Mika Go Gaga Over Schiff's Supposedly 'Virtuoso Performance'

January 23rd, 2020 10:31 AM

Look for the Morning Joe gang outside the Capitol's stage door, waiting to shower Adam Schiff with flowers while bellowing "bravo!"

On today's show, the panel pandered to their liberal audience by waxing rhapsodic over Adam Schiff's performance yesterday in presenting the Democrat case for impeachment. "Virtuoso performance" was the show's term of the day.

Let's grant that Schiff didn't stumble and bumble. But let's also distinguish between form and substance. Schiff might have done a workmanlike job. But how "masterful" can a presentation be if the substance of the impeachment case is this weak?

Let's review yet again: the Democrat case is based on a phone call in which President Trump never said funds would be withheld pending an investigation of the Bidens. The Ukrainians never conducted such an investigation. Yet following the phone call, the funds were promptly released. And the Democrats didn't even dare allege a quid pro quo or bribe in their articles of impeachment.

Sorry, Morning Joe, but no matter how well Pavarotti might have sung a nonsense rhyme, it wouldn't have been a "virtuoso" performance.

Here's the transcript.

Morning Joe
6:02 am ET

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: It was a virtuoso performance . . . It was a stunning recitation of the facts.

. . .

JOE SCARBOROUGH: I thought Schiff's performance was a virtuoso performance yesterday. I'm so used to seeing mediocrity on the floors of the House and the Senate, that a perfomance like that really does cut through.

. . .

WILLIE GEIST: He laid it out very clearly, as Tom [Nichols] said, from start to finish. With evidence, with testimony they played on the video screen. And told a pretty compelling and clear story.

. . .

BARBARA MCQUADE: Adam Schiff did masterfully what all prosecutors are trained to do.
