Schumer's Line of the Day on McConnell: Taking Trump Spin 'Hook, Line, and Sinker'

January 21st, 2020 9:55 AM

When his Senate career is over, Chuck Schumer should consider applying for a job as a manager at Long John Silver's. Because the Democrat minority leader has displayed an affinity for a fishing metaphor that might rival that of Izaak Walton in "The Compleat Angler."

In appearances on both MSNBC's Morning Joe and CNN's New Day this morning, Schumer repeatedly accused Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of going along with an alleged "coverup" by President Trump of the impeachment trial, "hook, line, and sinker." Schumer has cast the same line elsewhere across the media in recent days.

Question: if McConnell has gone along with the president "hook, line, and sinker," how should we describe the way that Schumer has slavishly followed the dictates of Nancy Pelosi, and her squad of far-left Democrats baying for impeachment?

And how do we describe the "mainstream" media toeing every line the Democrats draw?

Here's the transcript.

MORNING JOE

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: [incredulous tone] Is it possible there would be a trial where the information is not brought forward? Are we really concerned there will not be witnesses?

CHUCK SCHUMER: Well, we are concerned. Look: Leader McConnell has just gone along with President Trump's desire to cover up this trial hook, line, and sinker.

. . .

They tried to put as many barriers in the way of voting for witnesses and documents even after the arguments are heard. So McConnell is just totally, totally, totally going along with Trump's coverup hook, line, and sinker.

NEW DAY

SCHUMER: Mitch McConnell will go down in history as one of the people eroding democracy, because he has gone along with President Trump's coverup hook, line, and sinker.
