Scarborough Makes Pitch for Pelosi: Highly 'Competent,' Like World Series Winner!

November 15th, 2018 7:32 AM

Joe Scarborough: Nancy Pelosi fanboy.

On Thursday's Morning Joe, Scarborough scolded Democrats seeking to prevent Pelosi from becoming Speaker. Joe repeatedly praised Pelosi as highly "competent," and analogized her to Alex Cora, manager of the World Series-winning Red Sox. Scarborough said that dumping Pelosi:

"would really be like the Red Sox asking if they were going to keep Alex Cora or not . . . Why get rid of your Alex Cora after a championship season?"

Scarborough's point was that House Dems made big gains in the midterm elections with Pelosi as Minority Leader. He rejected the claim that Pelosi is "divisive," scoffing that all Republicans ran against her, and yet the Dems picked up many seats.

True, but who knows how much better House Dems might have done had Pelosi not been the face of the party?

As for being "competent," anyone who follows politics has seen the clips of Pelosi's frequent brain-freezes. Pushing Pelosi on the basis of her "competence" would be like advancing Bill Clinton as a model of moral behavior for America's youth.

Partial Transcript below:

JOE SCARBOROUGH:  Some Democrats [are trying] to clutch defeat from the jaws of victory. You actually have quite a few Democrats now talking about replacing Nancy Pelosi, saying she's divisive [Joe laughs]. First of all, it's not like every Republican didn't run against Nancy Pelosi in 2018, and yet what happened? They had their largest wave since Watergate. So -- and also, she's like one of the most competent Speakers of the House, as far as getting things done and knowing how to hold her troops together, in recent memory.

. . .

To use a sporting analogy, of course, this really would be like the Red Sox asking whether they were going to keep Alex Cora or not. It really would! . . . Running the House of Representatives has nothing to do with ideology. It has everything to do with competence, to borrow a phrase from Michael Dukakis. It's all about being competent . . . So why get rid of your Alex Cora after a championship season?
