Scarborough: Media Bias Worst On Issue of Abortion

July 31st, 2015 9:22 AM

Joe Scarborough chose to couch his criticism in exculpatory explanation, claiming that reporters "try to be as fair as possible" and that their bias is "unintended."  But Scarborough's bottom line was still this: that media bias is at its worst when it comes to the issue of abortion.

Speaking on today's Morning Joe, Scarborough took his critique a significant step further, asserting that if a conservative group were caught doing what Planned Parenthood has done, "there would be indictments already going down."

REPORTER: Even Planned Parenthood supporter Hillary Clinton called the videos "disturbing." The anti-abortion group says eight clips will be released through the fall when analysts say a political showdown could lead to a government shutdown.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Wow.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: You know, I -- I got to say of all the areas where I think there's media bias, I think the greatest area is on this issue. I think most reporters do the best job they can do and they try to be as fair as possible. But when it come to the issue of abortion, there is the greatest built-in bias. And it is completely cultural bias. It is unintended. But if the roles were reversed, we do this all the time, but it's true. And there is a group on the right doing what Planned Parenthood has done on the left --

MIKA: Oh, Lord --

JOE: -- and is described on the left, there would be Justice Department -- there would be indictments already going down. Hillary Clinton said it. Anybody that's looked at these videos, Michael Steele, will say it. Even if you're pro-choice --

MICHAEL STEELE: Oh, it's horrendous.

JOE: What Planned Parenthood officials, top officials, describe is absolutely horrendous.
