Adoring Fan Mika Brzezinski Hails Pelosi as ‘Woman of the Moment’

Amid all of the enthusiastic coverage on Wednesday’s Morning Joe over House Democrats announcing an official impeachment inquiry of President Trump, co-host Mika Brzezinski was particularly in awe of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The MSNBC host hailed Pelosi as “the woman of the moment” who “is driven first by her faith.”

Liberal pundit Mike Barnicle set the stage by cheering Pelosi’s move to begin the impeachment process: “Nancy Pelosi, born Nancy Delesandro....her background played, I think, an important role in her decision yesterday, and her background is faith in and devotion to this country of ours.”

Noting Pelosi recently attending funerals for journalist Cokie Roberts and the wife of Congressman Jim Clyburn, where she was “deeply moved,” Barnicle argued: “And she returned to Washington, D.C. knowing that the President of the United States, who she has always known lacks humility, she now suspects that he lacks even a conscience because of what he has done to rupture part of the fabric of the United States of America.”

He further proclaimed: “...yesterday we saw Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House, standing up not only for her faith in the country but her faith in the process of democracy.”

Brzezinski joined in the adulation for Pelosi:

Well, in so many ways I don’t disagree with you at all. I mean, Nancy Pelosi is the woman of the moment right now at this moment in history, and I was watching yesterday and just found myself really caught up in it....it is true that Nancy Pelosi is driven first by her faith. She’s also extremely disciplined. She’s extremely experienced at what she does. And if you ask her what the value it is that she brings to the table, she will say, “I have supreme knowledge of the subject.” She brings her knowledge to the table. She knows what she’s doing. And as a result, she’s a leader in this moment, and is able to really raise the questions and bring together people and push this forward in a way that actually could have a measure of success in terms of being focused and being all about our country’s national security.

The anchor marveled: “It really is incredible to watch. She’s – and she had such a huge day yesterday, and she just keeps going. She’s got unbelievable energy.”

Co-host and husband Joe Scarborough agreed: “I know she has surprised so many people over the past year, who always knew she was an effective leader, but just how effective she’s been, how nimble she’s been...”

There was no concern over the fact that Pelosi jumped on board the impeachment bandwagon without having all the facts and evidence.

Here is a transcript of the September 25 discussion:

MIKE BARNICLE: You know, Mika, one of the most dramatic aspects of this story, and I think it’s one that you can identify with more than most here this morning, is Nancy Pelosi, born Nancy Delesandro. And for months now, we know that she has been drawn reluctantly to where we are today. But her background played, I think, an important role in her decision yesterday, and her background is faith in and devotion to this country of ours.

And on Saturday she attended a funeral mass in Washington, D.C. for Cokie Roberts, and she was really moved during that funeral service, she was telling me Monday night. On Sunday, she flew to South Carolina and attended a funeral service for Jim Clyburn’s wife, Emily, and she was deeply moved even further at that service. And she returned to Washington, D.C. knowing that the President of the United States, who she has always known lacks humility, she now suspects that he lacks even a conscience because of what he has done to rupture part of the fabric of the United States of America.

And so, today, yesterday we saw Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House, standing up not only for her faith in the country but her faith in the process of democracy, and I just think the human element here of this drama is just almost equally important to the act that she set in motion yesterday.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Well, in so many ways I don’t disagree with you at all. I mean, Nancy Pelosi is the woman of the moment right now at this moment in history, and I was watching yesterday and just found myself really caught up in it. Having interviewed her for documentaries and also for my books, it is true that Nancy Pelosi is driven first by her faith. It really is incredible to watch. She’s – and she had such a huge day yesterday, and she just keeps going. She’s got unbelievable energy.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Well, she is – I know she has surprised so many people over the past year, who always knew she was an effective leader, but just how effective she’s been, how nimble she’s been, how she’s been so concerned to protect her moderate members from swing districts in the way she’s played all of this.
